2017 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Miami very easily could've lost to Ga Tech, FSU, Cuse, UNC and Virginia.....but they lucked their way into wins for all of them, so they'll still be in the playoff when Clemson throttles them.

This was such a winnable game for UVA. Dammit

Not a terrible day for Buckeyes....

The good:

1. Navy kept it close enough with ND for Bucks to jump them in next pole
2. Michigan State won - seems small, especially against Maryland, but that helps SOS and will be a resume builder. We are big MSU fans rest of way out
3. PSU slaughtered Nebraska...see above. We need the resume builders.
4. PSU plays Maryland next week and can get back into top 10, MSU plays Rutgers and can get back into top 15......that is big
5. Wisconsin winning was big.....we need undefeated Wisky in Big 10 championship. If we can beat them as a top 4 team it bolsters our resume.
6. UNLV snuck out an improbable win after being down big to New Mexico.....seems trivial right? But UNLV will now likely be bowl eligible. OSU may have a schedule with more bowl eligible teams than any other team they are in consideration with.

The bad:

1. Fuck you Iowa......lost to Purdue. Had Iowa won they'd be top 25 and had helped polish that turd of a loss
2. Miami got lucky as hell. Game shouldn't even have been that close. Virginia gifted so many turnovers and also had multiple pick 6's slip through their fingers. Terrible drops in critical situations too. Virginia actually looked like the better team.....just some terrible miscues. I still think Pitt gives Miami a decent game next Friday.....we'll see
3. Navy had a winnable game against ND....would've been a double positive had they won. Lessened the prestige for Miami of beaten ND, and also just destroying ND's chances, although ND really isn't a huge concern anyways
4. Seems trivial.....but Army is 8-2. If they win today they sneak into top 25. They're, as of this writing, down 21-7 to North Texas. An extra top 25 win would be huge. An Army win over Navy next week would be huge!!! We are big fans of Army!!!!

Next week hopes:

1. We obviously need to take care of business in Ann Arbor otherwise everything else is moot
2. Georgia Tech is sneaky competitive....wouldn't be surprised if they keep game close against Georgia. A Tech win would be great
3. Makes me puke, but we want Bama to rock Auburn. Our hopes take massive hit if Georgia wins and plays a two loss Auburn in SEC championship. That guarantees (2) SEC slots in playoff. We are big BAMA fans next weekend.
4. Go Pitt! I don't know why, but I'm getting vision of Shady McCoy ruining WVU's chances at title game and letting OSU slip in to title game. Pitt isn't good but they've been competitive. Hines Field, in late November, against Miami......I don't know. That just has Richt throw-up game written all over it. But the big thing there is, no matter what, should Miami lose to Pitt, OSU will jump whoever loses in ACC Title game. Worst case scenario is an undefeated Miami team loses to a 1 loss Clemson team. It'd be close, but it becomes a tough resume contest against Miami who has 1 loss to our 2 losses. I think we'd still get the nod, but we don't want the stress.
5. Go Army VS Navy
6. Go UNLV vs Utah State

I dunno man they've got that 2002 Ohio State feel to them. Luck out against bad teams, and blow out good ones. Everyone is gonna predict that they get throttled by Clemson, but it just might one of those years.

Here's hoping they lose next week or win out, because yea, our Iowa loss looks like an even bigger turd sandwich by the day. Maybe if they get totally obliterated by like 50+ points. But if it's even remotely close I don't think we get in over them.

Viewing guide for the weekend

If I don't list a game, either it doesn't matter, or root for the upset because the more chaos the better

Miami at Pitt Friday, noon. Pitt is bad but Miami plays down to their opponent, especially on the road. A Miami loss would end any hopes of 2 ACC teams in. If Miami at least looks bad, it may keep OSU in the hunt to pass a 1 loss Miami.

Iron Bowl Saturday, 3:30. Outside OSU winning, Bama winning is the most important game of the weekend. And next weekend, too. I think Bama is in, regardless of what they do. So let them win out.

Wisky at Minn, PSU at Maryland, MSU at Rutgers Saturday, 3:30/4:00. Wisconsin is the most important, but really don't want a bad loss to stain MSU and PSU, either.

WVU at Oklahoma Saturday, 3:45. What if Oklahoma loses this game, then loses the B12 CG? They are at 3 losses, so they have to be out. Would a 2 loss TCU/Okie St be ahead of OSU if they win the Big 12?

ND at Stanford Saturday, 8:00. A loss completely eliminates ND, plus would take some shine off Miami's best win

Chaos games: Georgia/Georgia Tech, Clemson/SC, UNC/NC State, TCU/Baylor

Apple Cup: If Wazzu wins, they go to the PAC12 champ and it'll be 2 loss Wazzu vs 2 loss USC. If not, Stanford goes. I don't think USC jumps us, so it probably doesn't matter.

Yeah, pretty sure we can nip this "Ohio State over 1 loss Miami" scenario in the bud.

I am in agreement on this. I don't see Miami beating Clemson. So, OSU really needs Miami to lose to Pitt this weekend to ensure that the ACC title game loser is out of the playoff. Of course, if Miami could run the table beating both Pitt and Clemson, that would work as well. It just doesn't seem likely to me.
