2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just to keep in mind is that Jay Wright, Villanova's coach is an excellent coach that puts his players in a position to succeed. In the last 15 years Villanova has significantly overachieved with players that were not even close to NBA worthy. The only two NBA players worth mentioning are Randy Foye and Dante Cunningham... others never even stepped on an NBA floor other than Darrun Hillard, Daniel Ochefu, Ryan Arcidiacono(only played in preseason for the Bulls) , none of them are on a NBA roster, and Josh Hart who currently looks pretty bad compared to how he looked in college.

Wright runs an offense similar to the NBA today which invovles a lot of cuts, 3pt shots and generally try to either get a high percentage shot at the rim or go for 3... no real inbetween game.

Wright makes players look better than they really are in terms of efficiency and eye popping advanced numbers. He runs the ultimate system for his players to thrive in... just to keep in mind.

Good, salient point.

Foye, I always saw as flawed/destined to have a mediocre ceiling due to being a chucker, being a little heavy, and being a tweener PG/SG. Not as familiar with the other guys and how they looked while at Nova, though certainly none of them were drafted near as high as Foye.

What is Bridges working with physically? Does he have the body/measurements of the type of player who's game translates to the position/role he'd be asked to perform in the NBA. I know some of this I can google, but I'm pretty sure you watch more NCAA than I do, so wanted to ask your opinion.

Cavs would be the perfect landing spot for him in the unfortunate scenario where the BRK pick lands around 10th.

I mean shit, as long as Dan stays away and Koby is competent, some years 9-14 gets you access to guys like Klay, Kawhi, Iggy, Amare, DeRozan, Hayward, PG13, Drummond, Giannis.

IF the Nets pick slips that far, lets hope 2018 is one of those years.

Yeah, I'll answer in just a few minutes after the game is over.

Arizona / Texas A&M should be a good watch too. I feel like Robert Williams is going to kill Ayton in the PnR tonight.

Mikal Bridges' defense is the real deal...could be more physical on the defensive boards, but hard to find any other flaw. Mentally he looks like a real veteran on that end.

On offense his jumpshot looks every bit as good as advertised, but when he puts the ball on the floor...yeesh. He looks like a 4th/5th option at the NBA level to me. Of course a long, dead-eye shooter is exactly what you want as your 4th/5th option, but do you use a top-10 pick on that kind of player? I dunno.

If LeBron, IT, and Love are all here next year(and in that case I'd imagine Wade is back as well), than that doesn't seem problematic. For the longterm, you'd need to have a legit PG next to him and hope that he has the ability to improve his handle each year in the league.

I'm seeing his wingspan listed as 7'0", which is the same as Klay and Kawhi. Is that accurate? @Sir'Dom Pointer @3 Ball...GOT IT

Ha, Dan is already printing the Miles Bridges Cavs jerseys as we speak.

I know that you almost always want to draft the player with the highest upside talent but I'm wondering if guys like Williams, Bridges(multiple year college stars) might be the best fit if LeBron stays and you want that Duncan/Kawhi dynamic where they are ready to make legit impact playoff contributions by year two

I think the hope with Mikal Bridges is that he turns into something like Trevor Ariza, might actually end up a much better player overall, time will tell. He's 6'7 with something like a 7'0 wingspan, great on-ball and team defender, athletic really explosive leaper. He shoots the 3 really well now, hopefully he can extend that out to the NBA 3, really no reason to believe that he can't. The only thing that I've seen is that he really can't create much off the dribble, seems like more of a catch and shoot player and a guy who can attack a close out.

Yes, Bridges has great size. He can guard at least the 1-3 in the NBA right now. Probably most 4s as well.

If he was on the Cavs right now I could honestly see him starting over Crowder lol. Although supposedly Crowder's difficult offseason affected this sluggish start.

Yeah, scary. Can't underestimate Dan being forceful about a Michigan State player. Hopefully Koby has the resolve to sell Dan or force Dan to go along with whatever is best at with that pick(if we use it)

That's exactly it and this is the biggest question. If Lebron stays this has to be Mikal Bridges. We would need to see what's his stock around the league at draft night, if it's after our selection, maybe we could swing that pick for Bridges and get another asset in return.

I think he can have similar impact to Kawhi on a contender where he knows his role.

I don't want Miles Bridges at all though... wouldn't pick him top 12 right now. That's scary.

It's 7'1, but I was sure it was 7'2 for some reason. I think he can definitely guard 1-4 in the NBA. He hasn't given size against 4's in College so far in the post... he battles down low and isn't pushed around. His frame is on the wiry side though and this body type isn't usually a big gainer.

Lol, now you guys see what I was talking about when I said there was very little chance he'd not go top 10.

Still don't get why you balk at the idea of playing him as a small-ball 4. I think he could showcase his length and athleticism a lot more often there. Not many 4's will be able to stay in front of him when he attacks closeouts, and he'll obviously demand hard closeouts.

If Deandre Ayton is 7'1", then Williams is at least 6'10". Everywhere I see has him listed 6'9" though.

I don't remember ever saying that. I just said he could start for Crowder right now on the Cavs at the 4.
