Open Discussion (Cavs + related issues)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That game was ugly.
The Cavs knew the T-Wolves would come out smoking...and they couldn't match the intensity..looks like their in their January deep freeze mode.

Our defense is a joke. A lot of people thought to have one of the best defense in the league after all those W in a row against bad teams...well it's not like this. With IT will be just worst. Honestly if necessary, I'd prefer to lose badly another game or two just to let Lue understanding that we have to find a different balance. We will also have Rose back soon...would be crazy remaining with these choices.

Yeah we just gave up 125 pts to the Magic ...Why would we have any interest in adding a defensive center such as Bogut?
Dude wouldn't last a season..oh wait maybe 30 seconds in to a quarter?
Cavs need a younger defensive player who can move and alter shots, plug that lane up and matchup against the more mobile centers in the game.

Time to go all-in and remake this roster!

What I fucking hate the most about this team is that they constantly instagram and snapchat about being in the gym for hours. Skip one of those every few days and maybe do a practise so you can integrate new lineups and learn some sort of defensive scheme. Right now the defense is solely pick up basketball defense. No one talks, guys just try to stick to one man and switch if they get picked off. It's not like Lue tells JR "hey, this guy is a good shooter, go over screens". I'm not expecting JR's dumbass to know whose a good shooter or not because he's probably high as fuck. It's on Lue to have the team ready, but he has 0 creativity. I've said it before and I'll say it again, every good lineup he's had has been because of an injury. There's no point in even trading for someone because I have no faith in his ability to actually get them to fit on this team.

When we got Korver, he had a rough time to start because the play was "Korver, run around and try to get your shot off". You still rarely see off ball screens for Korver, which is dumb as fuck.

I'm in the camp that thinks JR is shot, and that TT may not ever be what he was.

That said, I think there's a lot of overreaction. We just started integrating a brand new starting PG, which changed all our rotations. These guys need at least 10 more games together to start figuring things out on both ends of the court.

Maybe then, panic will be appropriate. But right now, this needs to play out for awhile.

dont worry we are going to lose a few more...precisely the next 3....our defense will never allow us to win against elite teams...just aint gonna happen

I think JR is done too. The thing about TT is that he was always a one trick pony that is easy to shut down when someone decides to put in a little effort. TT isn't a great defensive rebounder. So if you are opposite TT then you have to make sure to stay between him and the basket and then box him out once the shot goes up. Then he looks like he shouldn't be on a basketball court and offers nothing besides that. Cant score, can't pass, can't create, free throw liability, low defensive IQ especially in help situations, can't finish around the basket unless its a lob or uncontested.

The teams defense wasn't noticeably affected by inserting frye instead of TT but the offense was significantly upgraded. There just isn't one reason to play TT that I can see.

Dave out here hitting the nail on the head. Everyone needs to calm the fuck down, as if we haven't seen the story each of the previous three seasons.

He's right. The die-hards know this schtick.

However, this shouldn't be what we are subjected to as fans. Its to the point where I don't even like going to regular season games, because I know there is a 50% chance I will get a lackluster effort. Lack of effort creates bad habits. Bad habits lose ball games.

We know the Cavs are good enough to win the East...that's not the issue.

With LeBron James the one goal should be a championship. The sobering reality is that we can't even play on the same court as the Warriors as presently coached and constructed. Some would say (fairly) that Durant made competing with them impossible, but I do think the development of good habits and the integration of the right personnel could give us a puncher's chance.

These guys should KNOW how razor-thin the margin for error is against this team; they came out and fucked around all last year, breezed through the East and got embarrassed in the Finals. The "switch flip" works in the Eastern Conference, it won't work against this team.

So we're at a crossroads. Either we're content with beating up on the East and being made the Warriors' bitch, or we decide as organization that we want to take the fight to them. If it's the former, then you're making it difficult for LeBron to want stay here any longer (even though he's part of the problem.) If it's the latter, then we need to make changes. It's that simple.

I think LeBron's got maybe 2 more really good years, tops. If he stays, then I think there needs to be some major roster overhauls. No more sacred cows. Keep LeBron, possibly Love. Everyone else can go in a deal. Need more length, more athleticism, more youth. If you can't win a championship with those changes, at least with youth you're positioned for a rebuild.

The Cavs with Kobe cannot just mold the team to match the Warriors..they need to construct it to beat any team.
I look at some of the young up and coming teams right now and they have lengthy athletic players on their wings and bigger guards..

I would say they want to take the fight to every team but the current roster as is could take anyone down, but they have to be playing flawless ball, and they seldom do that.
Some of it is physical skills ,some of it is on the coach.
The parts they need is not on the team, and that's several defensive players, which we pretty much know what positions those are.
No PG or center we have can play a lick of defense..and that's where it starts.
I don't know what opportunities will come open but they do need to make several moves.

With a tough stretch of games coming up, the Cavs are 5.5 games behind the Celtics. HOWEVER, they're also only 5.5 games ahead of the 9th seed.

This could go south quickly. Or north!
