The Trump Administration (just Trump) Thread

Politically, it gives the democrats a stronger position now. Trump looks like an asshole in public, in regards to immigration, and they have 1 week to strike a deal.

I’ll have to go back and check, but I’m pretty sure nowhere in “The Art of a Deal” does it suggest making a public dick out of yourself, with 1 week left in a tough negotiation. But maybe there’s a hidden chapter....

I'm not sure it's going to matter -- I actually think most of the things the GOP is demanding in exchange for legalization of the 10 million or so people who are here illegally -- border security, limiting chain migration, and moving towards a merit-based immigration system versus a lottery -- are not only defensible, but reasonable and correct. And I don't think many Republicans are going to change their positions on that just because Trump said something incredibly stupid.

With that said, I'm kind of done with this particular sub-issue. Trump said something stupid that he shouldn't have said, but beyond that...it just isn't very interesting to me.

I sure as shit would've. Fuck Donald Trump and his immigration policy.

SIDENOTE:
Honestly, I don't call any place a shithole, and that comes directly from my Cleveland heritage. There are many misconceptions about our town nationally, and it's a shame that people will use it as a punchline without having even visited. I hate when someone takes someone else's home, whether it's Milwaukee or Detroit or Haiti or anywhere, and turn it into a joke. It's dismissive, it's usually ignorant, and worst of all, it's lazy. It doesn't get much less creative than poking fun at a city or a group of people while they're down.

Have I told a Detroit joke before? Yes. Have I laughed at a good joke about a city/state/country? Of course. But it'd be great if we tried to do it less in my personal opinion.
Bologna, you guys are too knee deep in your progressive never offend anybody shtick. I just don't believe that so many of you guys haven't done this in private.

Such as...what? What "informed decision" is there to be made?

Surely, you can't be serious.. The President potentially being a racist, and that factoring into our immigration policy, is something one can make informed decisions about...

He doesn't have any obligation to Trump. The obligation would be to the country as a whole in not deliberately disseminating information that will damage our foreign relations.

Obviously you weigh the pros and cons; and I don't see a legitimate reason for Durbin not to confirm these reports? As an American, I'd prefer to take the hit with foreign countries to know the truth.

Some of that type of stuff was in those Snowden documents as well - disparaging things about foreign countries/politicians that damaged the U.S. when they were made public.

This is not that.

Apparently, there also was a lot of that kind of stuff in the Hillary Clinton emails

:chuckle: ....

So the question is -- do you think all of those things should have been released in unredacted form, so that both the American people and foreign countries could see exactly what Hillary Clinton and everyone on those email chains thought about various foreign countries, American political leaders, etc..? I mean, since you're talking about the value of making "informed decisions" about our President, shouldn't that logic have applied even more so when the country was trying to decide who would be President for the next four years?

I don't recall anyone really arguing for that.

That's a very broad question (regarding the Snowden release) that in itself would require a great deal of evaluation...

We don't require the same degree of evaluation for this specific problem, and I think that's fair to say, no?

I can't comment on this subject because I fear my head will explode.

That being said, many of you need to take a step away from this thread. It's very hard if not impossible to change people's political opinions. Trump supporters will seemingly go to no end to defend him. Anti-Trumpers will bring an avalanche of evidence as to why they dislike him. Neither side is really making an impact on the other at this point.

Please take a step away from this thread before it gets out of control.

Thank you.

I do want to note that on the pro-Trump side, @MediumBaller has not been a stone wall in this discussion and @billmac91 made multiple high quality posts that demonstrate that you can support the president without condoning everything he's said/done. It's rare that we get examples of people being reasonable on either side in here, and it has been testy recently.

If you were trying to play the middle here and step in to cool things down you certainly look like you're favoring one side with how this is worded. Which is never a good thing to do when breaking up a confrontation.

You truly, TRULY don't have to bait everyone in here.

I wouldn't be as defensive of certain comments if it wasn't the lefts mission to label as many people as possible a racist.

Chalk this one up as another lie:

Of course I was serious -- the evidence of that is that you didn't answer the question. You said a decision to be made. What decision? Whether or not to re-elect Trump in 2020?

Bologna, you guys are too knee deep in your progressive never offend anybody shtick. I just don't believe that so many of you guys haven't done this in private.

Dude... You don't know me at all but let me assure you that I could've (and maybe have) made that same comment any time in the last 5+ years.

Again, I said that I HAVE made and laughed at those kind of jokes, but it's something I usually frown upon.

I had a high school teacher refer to Youngstown as an armpit. You can certainly make the argument, but I just found it to be a gross dismissal of a place people call home. It's honestly a peeve of mine. And again, it's because I've been in so many online discussions where people talk shit about my home without knowing the first thing about it. Who am I to call some other town a shithole?

And hell, being happy anywhere depends on your outlook. You can be miserable anywhere.

Fox News brought in a body language expert to discuss Barack Obama's fist bumping, inferring that it may in fact be a "Terrorist Hand Jab."

I wouldn't be as defensive of certain comments if it wasn't the lefts mission to label as many people as possible a racist.

The contrary position to this is that there is a neoreactionary movement out there that will fight tooth and nail to say that anything and everything is not racist; regardless of whether or not it is or isn't .. simply because they find the concept so offensive (presumably) that no one could possibly be a racist, even people cloaked in sheets.
