The Shape of Water, - 6/10. I was underwhelmed as well but the cinematography was a 9/10. Loved the early 60s sets.
The Post - 7/10. Entertaining, and I didn't know the history of the Pentagon Papers. Obviously very relevant with today's political attacks on the free press. Tom Hanks is Tom Hanks in every movie. He's a glue guy at this point and sadly I don't think he gets the Academy attention he deserves for always doing his job. Meryl Streep was very good even if her part called for her to be passive, while Bob Odenkirk was great as always.
3 Billboards - 8/10. Very entertaining. Some plot holes (the ending, why are all the black people in Missouri Brooklyn hipsters?) but overall a good movie with some strong performances.
Seems like a very weak year for the Academy. Kind of like the year Crash won (Brokeback should have won Best Picture.) EDIT: Just realized Get Out was nominated for Best Picture. Great movie. That was the best one I saw in the past year. Hope it wins.
