So Long Jordan Clarkson ( aka Chucky McJumperson)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Next IT will lead the Lakers tank giving the Celtics a top 2-5 pick lol.............

This is the worst Lakers franchise slump since the mid 50's/early 60's in Minnesota.

Lakers will end up doing more crazy one year deals like KCP and Redick got
this summer.

Guys like IT, Barton, Noel, Tyreke Evans, Hezonja, Favors

A few of those guys will decide that they’ll chose big money and losing for one year vs taking far less money on a multi year deal to play on a winner

I mean, I get that the Lakers motivation was to clear space.. but this seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face. This trade already looks foolish and I think will only look moreso over the next couple seasons.

I just don’t think you can judge this trade until you see what they do in Free Agency. I think it was a win-win for both teams. I just feel the Cavs could’ve got it done without including a pick.

Okay, fine. But am I wrong in thinking that LBJ going to the Lakers this summer is...unlikely? Even if they managed George and LBJ, I don't think that team is good enough. Just very thin on two-way role players, and the Lonzo/Lavar combo....

Anyway, my point is that it doesn't sound like Magic actually has a reliable master plan -- more like a wink and a prayer that players will fall into his lap simply because he's Magic, and his team is the Lakers. And by ditching Clarkson and Nance before actually knowing who was available, it was kind of like he went all-in long before he had to do so.

As many have pointed out, Magic falling for what the Ball family was selling was a Godsend for the Cavs to retain James. I'd heard the Ball family promised to tone down all the antics once Lonzo was drafted... obviously Lavar is a zebra who can't change his stripes. The rumors that the Lakers would consider attaching Ball to the Deng contract was hilarious... I'm sure there's a line out the door for that package.

I'm steeling myself from disappointment, but the trade put the Cavs in a much better spot to retain James than most believed could be arranged. I'm enjoying the articles from Shelburne today about how the Cavs don't have long-term roster flexibility.

Clarkson has been a bit of a surprise to me, I wasn’t expecting such a polished and a team player. He might be the biggest steal of this trade.

Yeah.

They have to get a good player, even if its for a one-year deal just to ensure PG goes there.

I have a feeling they'll go for DeAndre Jordan if LeBron decides to stay here or doesn't go there.

Is that what you think it is on average for late first round picks? 1 out of every 3 becomes a viable rotation player? I have no clue, but I would have guessed even less than that.

Not that great lol. We outperformed our win expectancy with that pick especially because a late first rounders timeline doesn't match that of a 25 year olds. They'll be exiting their primes right as LeBron hangs it up tbh. So that's perfect. Young veterans should rightly be coveted by win now FO's and we fuckin got em. Suck it Lakers.

agreed. hoping he turns out like JR, who everyone thought was just a throw in but thrived with structure (and lebron)

Jc even said the space is crazy...he’s never been out there w so many shooters

Lakers didn’t have this space

He should get way more open shots and get to the basket much easier

Just wait till they put him in second units w love...

More gravity, more space..

I'm guessing they probably assumed that LeBron wasn't going to make a decision to stay in Cleveland based on Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. No idea if that ends up being right or wrong, but I don't think it was an awful assumption. Further, I don't think anyone, even the most optimistic Cavs fan, could have predicted that all the new guys would gel immediately. Most of us assumed the game last night and the Celtics game were going to end up schedule losses, just bad timing with the trade. Instead, our team looks like they've been playing together for years and just blew out the Celtics and beat the Thunder pretty handily.

No one expected this type of turnaround this quickly. I'm sure the Lakers are as baffled by it as we are. :chuckle:

Right -- although the Lakers also didn't know what other deals we had in the hopper, or whether or not we might actually use that Brooklyn pick. Point is, even if they didn't think the two guys they gave us were enough, there was always a possibility that we'd turn this around and make LBJ staying here much more likely. Which is why prematurely ditching two talented players based on the expectation that LBJ would be available was a dumb move.

Ithink it was pure hubris by the Lakers. I didn't know that it would be this good, but I knew the pieces fit.

The Lakers played themselves and Koby took advantage big time

What's so cool is I've seen all sorts of posts here about one or the other of our acquisitions being the best of the bunch. And that's been said about all four of them.

I personally love the Nance pickup the most. Him being both a local kid, as well as a Cavs' "legacy", means that he'll likely be here his entire career. Pay him fairly, and he won't chase last dollar to go elsewhere. He'll always hustle, be a vocal guy on defense, and be a complete class act.

But really, it's a four-bagger -- Altman hit a grand slam with this deal.
