Koby Altman

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Lakers deal is a win-win in my book. They wanted to move Clarkson because they want to be big time players in free agency, they get the pick, and Walton is very tight with Channing Frye. Frye was part of the Lute Olsen mini dynasty. He can yank the locker room back under Luke's control. Isaiah might bounce back a little offensively, but he never made sense in Cleveland because his defense is just too limited.

It made a lot of sense for both sides. The Lakers parted with two role-players for cap space and a future asset. We needed guys who know how to play basketball and they needed to get out of Clarkson's future money. Win-win, as you said.

Safe to say Koby raped LA?

It was a fair trade for both teams. Lakers got out of some long-term money, opened up two max contract spots this offseason, and got a draft pick. We got two good role-players who can contribute for us immediately. Win-win.

When Altman visited with James in the Cavaliers' practice facility a week ago, he let him know that there were still talks alive with the LA Clippers on a Jordan deal. What's more, there was significant progress: Altman had ownership approval to send the Clippers Jae Crowder, Channing Frye, Iman Shumpert and the Cavs' 2018 first-round pick for Jordan. The Clippers were willing to accept the trade, but on one significant condition.

Clippers general manager Michael Winger explained to Altman that LA didn't want another shooting guard. He hoped to find a third team that would take Shumpert and his $21 million with draft compensation, and have the Clippers get a center back.

(1) Michael B Jordan will play Koby Altman in a movie titled "Trading Day"
(2) Kings front office is worse than anyone ever thought. Browns FO from last season that botched the AJ McCarron trade are geniuses in comparison. How you make a deal as a professional then randomly add two busts to a deal last minute while dealing with two NBA GM's is some laughable stuff.
(3) Thank god a rookie GM had an ally Assistant GM Justin Zanek or else nothing happens with their GM who just seemed really unhappy LMAO (See Kings)
(4) Interesting debate but if the DJ trade happens + the 1st, then we don't get Clarkson/Nance and Hood since Crowder and 1st were crucial outgoing assets. Even with that possible trade (while keeping the pick) it was clear Koby/Dan weren't interested in paying DJ 100 million +. Major props to Dan for taking on a ton of salary and not making it easy for LeBron to leave during the summer.

Damn give this man the award already (Morey and Ainge can fight for 2nd lol)

Kyrie ---> IT/Crowder/Zizic/Nets unprotected 1st ---> Clarkson/Nance/Hood/Zizic/Nets unprotected 1st

some people will hate and say he hit the undo button on his previous trade but considering the options were limited during the summer, I think we made out like bandits. The big fish is obviously the Nets pick while improving the depth, we're looking at super role players in Clarkson/Hill and two guys who have potential for more in Hood and Nance. I also think these moves were made with Cedi in mind as well which is why Wade was the odd man out.

Best part of this article to me is that when push came to shove, Koby secured two one on one, face to face meetings with LeBron about 24-48 hours of each other to talk about the deadline possibilities and the state of the franchise.

Then to have the trades go down as they did and for things to start out so positively. Hopefully that is something that helps to build that relationship(can't have Bron's main Cavs org relationship be with Dan) and build LeBron's trust in Koby that even if we don't win the Finals this year, Koby is a guy he can count on to not be complacent, not be shortsighted, and put the right pieces in place for LeBron to be able to continue to compete for titles in Cleveland for many more years.

Imagine if we had made no deals. Or used almost all the resources we had on DeAndre? Would be a much different mood and outlook.

I think the thing that Koby needs the most credit for is his massive set of balls involving LA.

He actually acknowledged that it would be bad optics if the Cavs were to help facilitate LeBron abandoning them for the Lakers by granting cap space.

However, he openly discussed that LeBron and the prospective team would make it happen no matter what—even if it takes bad cap clearing trades to do so. He was wise enough to know that there is ultimately nothing he or the Cavs could do to stop it if it was the desired endpoint.

Thus, he learned from the absolute savage deals where Griffin was burnt trying to clear cap space for LeBron and decided to use LA’s desperation against them.

He crushed them. He crushed the entire deadline.

He also had the confidence within himself that LeBron is staying with an invigorated roster.

It’s that confidence that makes people respect you. The feedback he’s gotten, the candid comments he’s made. He’s riding high right now. I love Koby with an attitude. Nationally televised game, telling Doris to stop asking him questions so he can watch this new beast of a roster. We see you young Altman.

Chicks don’t dig the kiss-ass. They want that cocky douchebag.

Right now LeBron is eyeing Koby and he just can’t help himself.

What was our roster today if Kobe chose the Jordan trade instead?

Per windy, we could only do one of the trades plus Jordan. The same pieces would have been involved except a 2023 first round pick would have been sent to Minnesota to take on shump.

So either hood+hill and Jordan
Or
Clarkson+nance and Jordan

Oh ok thanks, Koby made the right choice than.

I think Nance fits better against GS anyway, he's way more agile and quick which means he can switch on most of the players on GS, Hes also more polished offensively dribbling the ball and a better passer, and from what I'v seen Nance contested almost everything coming his way at the rim which was great to watch.

We also really need all of the other pieces so Koby was very smart going for fit and need instead of going for the big name player imo.

DeAndre would have helped us destroy the east and get beat by the west. Might have been a better choice against OKC, but even then I like what Koby did better.

I personally think DJs best days are behind him and for our new guys there best years are the next 3-4 which is exactly what the Cavs need.

They all have the potential to get more valuable for later trades as well. DeAndre gets way less valuable as soon as he signs a Max contract. I am not sure he gets it.
