Browns trade Danny Shelton to Pats

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nothing bad to say about him. Good luck to him.

Any good DTs in the draft? Free agency?

Just another smart Dorsey move. Get value for players who simply don't fit, and won't be involved going forward. I'm just curious to what we do in replacing him, probably within.
If Hurst checks out medically? He would fit our scheme very well

Yeah, I remember you driving the Shelton train too. You loved him, posting training camp videos of him pushing the whole team.

We were all sucked into thinking he was gonna be great, and a game changer. Matter fact, game changer was used a lot with him.

He should be a game changer.

Never quite realized it, but I’d be willing to bet he plays at a different level in the Pats scheme.

He’s the ideal NT.

I'd debate that Williams did an awful job putting Shelton in positions to succeed.

Played him in way too many passing downs, had him dropping in coverage way too frequently, hell he even had him dropping in coverage when the opponents were inside our 5 yard line.

Dontari Poe is a free agent...

Overall, Shelton was a hell of an interior player but I think Ogunjobi made him sort of ineffective here. Ogun makes plays that Shelton doesnt. Unfortunately, I hate the value.

Poe was who popped in my head. Has a relationship with Dorsey from his time in KC. KC couldn’t re-sign him due to their cap situation so I dont think there’d be any bad blood there.

In a year when we have a new staff and Gregg is gone this is going to look retarded.
Lol, aren't you used to this by now? It's a Browns trend.

I have a very good feeling for the first time in a long time regarding Dorsey. If things doesn't change this next season, then he's dumping the coaching staff and getting his guys.

Dorsey is very competent, he's doing these moves because he simply has too, it's showing UFA's that Browns are legitimate now, come join the turnaround.

But back to Shelton and DT position, word is Browns like Ogunjobi very much there.

Nah, paying Shelton 13M and then a large extension was not the way to go.

Ogunjobi and Brantley will both improve in year two and showed flashes towards the end of year one. Meder often performed at a level equivalent to Shelton. And, whether by draft or FA, we likely already have another DT lined up.

I can understand not loving this deal of being meh on it but I don’t understand hating it or feeling like it is a big mistake

Trevon Coley also looked very capable.

I just can't get behind this trade.
This is why changing front offices every 2 years never lets you become a good franchise

Every regime wants to bring in their guys and punch the plane tickets of prior regimes guys, even if they’re talented

For months this is what I said I hoped wouldn’t happen. I don’t get why this has to happen with every regime change. If a guy is talented who cares if you didn’t pick him.

So people are worried about cap space when it comes to Shelton, but with Landry it doesn’t matter how overpaid he is because we have a mountain of cap space?

Some of you guys will bend over backwards to protect every front office that rolls through here. We gave up a talented player for an end of third round pick next year and we threw in a 5th rounder for it. Call a spade a spade sometimes. It’s just another front office who needs their guys

Has Danny Shelton hit the Players Tribune yet with how he grew into a man in Cleveland and is ready for the next chapter ?

They asked Shelton to get leaner. They wanted him to be able to play more than 2 downs.

Instead, he got fatter and fatter throughout the year. He's not explosive enough. He's not a pass-rushing threat. Where he was drafted, everyone hoped that he would be. He was at Washington.

He's a run stuffer who should be playing the nose in a 3-4. That's all he'll ever be. Don't act like we gave up a star. Just because he has a first round tag on his ass doesn't make him a difference-making player.

Dorsey didn't look at him and say "That's a guy we spent a 1st on 3 years ago." He looked at him and said, "That's a mediocre player who doesn't fit our scheme, is a 3-4 Nose, and is about to be due a contract after the year--let's see what I can get."

I'm not at all upset that they moved him. I was just hoping they could get a little more from a team who needs his services considering we gave back a current pick. If this was a future 2nd from NE instead of a 3rd, I wouldn't say a single word. Then again, having said what I just said, maybe the 3rd isn't too far off.

I just hope this doesn’t mean we have to see more of Jamie meder.
