Browns trade Danny Shelton to Pats

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dontari Poe is a free agent...

Overall, Shelton was a hell of an interior player but I think Ogunjobi made him sort of ineffective here. Ogun makes plays that Shelton doesnt. Unfortunately, I hate the value.

Probably worried about the 5th year option and that he isnt that “good” opposed to others on the team.

The only upside I see is that this 3rd round pick next year, will be higher than the comp pick we would get if Shelton walked.

Was the 5th rounder we traded the Packers pick? Feels slightly better if so.

If they didn't value Shelton that much, getting a 3rd rounder back isn't terrible.

Granted it will be at the end of the round, but better than nothing.

Unless Brady dies during the season...

Or gets arrested for being a pedophile.

Let's assume the New England pick is 90th overall (26th in the round).

Draft value chart says that's worth 140 points.

We traded (I would assume, #159) + Shelton.

So the draft value chart says we got roughly 112 points for Shelton or the equivalent of a 4th round pick.

Pretty underwhelming for me but whatever. Is what it is.

Compensation looks much worse if it was our own 4th.

I get DL was a strength, but not sure I get the trade.

Maybe we are going with smaller interior linemen? Brantley, Ogunjobi, Meder? Maybe they are happy with that rotation plus some outliers?

Maybe they plan on play Ogbah inside some and really, really like Chub?

The hope for Shelton, when he was drafted, was a well-rounded defensive tackle who can control the line of scrimmage drawing double teams. Danny flashed some ability shutting down the opponent's interior run game, but that's all really. He maxed out as a nose tackle with some durability concerns, and Brantley does his job equally well. It's a shame because I really liked Shelton's potential when he played at Washington. If you are keeping track, PAC 12 defensive linemen have not been living up to the pre-draft hype the past few years.

I think this defensive scheme values pass rusher inside much more than the lane clogger Shelton is. That being said, the compensation is underwhelming...

How many players are we going to throw away just because of our constantly changing defensive scheme. Every 2-3 years we hear the same thing, he doesn't fit in our 3-4 or 4-3 scheme anymore. Pick a scheme and stick with it. The organization is going to miss on players but subtracting good players just because of scheme is idiotic.

Shelton, Cam Erving, Orchard

2015 worked out well.
Yeah, I remember you driving the Shelton train too. You loved him, posting training camp videos of him pushing the whole team.

We were all sucked into thinking he was gonna be great, and a game changer. Matter fact, game changer was used a lot with him.
