The Joe Thomas Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It would be really freaking nice to schedule the Browns to play in the HOF Game when JT goes in on the first ballot.

NFL should pencil them in for 2023.
No way this isn’t the case... the scene for the whole weekend is going to be insane... you won’t meet a person in Cleveland who doesn’t love Joe Thomas

You appreciate a guy making enough money to buy a small island for taking part in that shit we had to endure? Yea I feel real bad for him and his suffering.
Yep. I do.

The point is that JT could have made that much money -- or perhaps even more -- with teams that were much, much better. The money was a given.

It says a lot of the character of the man that he stayed here and fought to make it a success, turning down other opportunities elsewhere. So yeah, I do feel badly because he never got the non-economic payoff for that loyalty.

God damnit. Not even going to lie, I teared up a bit

Joe was my favorite player. Always has been and honestly probably always will be. I played left tackle in high school and wore #73. I watched so much film of Joe Thomas trying to model my game after his. It was a tall task lol. In his 11 year career I genuinely think Joe had less than what could be considered 5 bad games. And that’s by HIS standards. Just such an amazing player to watch. He was an absolute technician, the best of which I’ve ever seen. But he combined that with being an amazing athlete. Joe Thomas could have been a perennial top 10 tackle just based on strength and athleticism. When you combine that with how he was the most fundamentally sound lineman I have ever seen, it makes the best offensive tackle in the league 11 years running. Fuck a Ryan Clady that was always such a joke of a “competition”

I still remember I got into football late and the 2007 draft was the first one I watched. I remember I was young and stupid and my uncle is a huge Notre Dame fan so I wanted Quinn at 3. And I remember when we picked Thomas i didn’t know who the hell he was and my uncle just said that was the right pick. He’s going to be a hall of famer one day

The next year was the first year that I really couldn’t get enough Browns football. It was the 10-6 year where that little pussy Manning couldn’t be bothered to play in the last week of the season so we got FUCKED out of the playoffs.

I remember Joe being the only other player besides Peterson to get ROY votes (and I remember being mad Joe lost lol). I remember the hard years that followed and always thinking how sweet it will be when Joe got to play in a playoff game

And God fucking Damnit does it bother me and probably always will that such a remarkable player and person never got that opportunity

Thanks for everything Joe. And I truly mean that

Buddy just texted me

"Josh Gordon is currently the longest tenured Brown"
And if I'm not mistaken, Bitonio and Kirksey are next right? 2014 draft picks? That means Josh is the only guy that was on the 2012 and 2013 roster that we still have.

My best friend/ left tackle in high school just sent me a text with the exact same thing. I played QB through high school and into college and if I'm being honest, never spent that much time watching film of offensive lineman. Obviously, I was familiar with the position/protection/sets etc... but I never really started looking at film and understanding the position until Joe Thomas. I found myself watching Joe, and only Joe, during games - I was amazed at his level of dominance.

I'm sad to see him go. We haven't had many athletes start and finish their career in a Cleveland uniform. I feel fortunate that I had an opportunity to see this guy play for as long as I did. We will never see another one like him.
