They aren't from the real world.

They're from the land of pure social indoctrination.

Again, if you're a native american activist, someone who has sincerely worked with those in first nations communities? I will listen to you all day long and not object to criticism. You have experiences that I do not. I may not always agree with you but I can offer you respect, the ability to listen and assistance in areas I agree with.

If you're a privledged, bourgeois idiot who's only experiences listening to those in that community has been a college professor simply saying "AMERICA BAD. "? You're an asshole. You actually don't care. You're doing this to feel better about yourself and shed the shame that you have as a person.

If you truly gave a shit, if you truly felt guilty? You would be donating time and charity to those communities (they REALLY need it.). You would be advocating for more education of First nations people in history courses in this country.

Stop putting band aids on broken bones.

I mean...it's over? You got what you wanted.

I frankly would love to see this effort driven into educating people on native american history and the current plights faced by those who reside in say, Oklahoma TBH.

How are native americans not rolling their eyes at this shit? I'm part one and I feel just groaning every time I read this.

1. It's never enough.
2. Some natives do genuinely have a problem with it. There is dispute over how many.
3. Just because you're not native doesn't mean you can't have a problem with it.

Change the name, change the logo!!

If it finally shuts these like...three people the hell up and stops giving them media coverage? Sure. Because I'm just kinda tired of them.

I'm a bit saddened because I kinda liked the logo, name due to me being a) part native american b.) a native clevelander. Like I see people of Irish decent being all into Notre Dame, The Celtics, etc. I want my own version with local ties.

But if we're going to go the "Cleveland Buckeyes" route? Sure.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Buckeyes

That's my vote. The spiders suck as a mascot and logo. They're also tied to the worst team in MLB history. The Buckeyes? Yeah that'd be cool.

go google what the "American Indian Movement" is.

When they're being called "Marxists"? Even as ignorant as that guy is? He's correct.

That's the problem. These are not the mainstream attitudes of Native Americans in the same way that the KKK is the mainstream attitude of whites or the Black Panthers are the mainstream opinion of African Americans.

I didn't realize that making a 'war whoop' was another way to call someone a Marxist.

The people protesting this are marxists. These are not normal lefties.

Period. This is who you're defending.

Marrxists.

And i reject that idealogy whole sale. Its trash and the people who support are idiotic rubes.

Again I'm apathetic about the name change but I will be DAMNED if I will be lectured by anyone that subscribes to that shit idealogy.

This sets an awful precedent. Might =/= right. This is exactly why it doesn't stop.

I compare it to the NFL.

The fanbase was "split" on the whole kneeling thing. It's probably a spectrum of "against it", "don't care" and "FREE KAEP" on it.

What pushed that over the edge ultimately was the media coverage of it which is...predominantly neoliberal and sympathetic towards the overall cause. Had the NFL sided with the conservative to apathetic view point on it? They'd have suffered a major media black eye.

There is (sadly) no way of winning this argument because the sports media predominantly has ruled in favor of these 3 protesters that show up to opening day every year. There is no interest in doing research on the topic, doing an overall poll of native americans, holding a discussion with various native americans on what should be done. It's been decided.

I'm saddened by it, but it doesn't effect my enjoyment of Cleveland baseball one way or the other.

I do wish the media would vet and be more critical of the people who advocate for these sorts of things.

...

As for the people doing this. So fucking what? They're relatively powerless They don't hold office. They aren't CEO's of major businesses. They're not various media members. They're on the whole irrelevant. They're probably actually in a "lesser" position of power because unlike AIM? They've not had been interviewed by major, national media outlets about their onions on the issue.

People can be assholes. That's the beginning and end of it.

Good topic to discuss in the political forum, if they'll allow it somewhere

You have to be a Native American activist to have a valid opinion in support of moving on from the logo? That seseems kind of silly.

Anyhow, it's gone, so it's time for everyone to move on.
