Good topic to discuss in the political forum, if they'll allow it somewhere

When John Carlos and Tommie Smith both did the black power salute at the 68 olympics? Several sports writers (including a young Brent Musburger) were critical of them. Do I agree with the criticism? No. But i can certainly understand why there was criticism of them at the time.

That would not happen today. If a sports writer wrote a article critical of say...kaepernick? He'd be pretty much cyber mobbed out of a job. People would attack the guy's sponsors, publish his home address, all that stuff.

And I'm approaching this as a left winger with libertarian tendencies on these sorts of matters. I do not think that my side of the aisle having a monopoly on the above is a good idea. Because, not only does it make us look like bullies, but it doesn't allow ourselves criticism in terms of making our overall ideas better.

I couldn't agree with you more.

go google what the "American Indian Movement" is.

When they're being called "Marxists"? Even as ignorant as that guy is? He's correct.

That's the problem. These are not the mainstream attitudes of Native Americans in the same way that the KKK is the mainstream attitude of whites or the Black Panthers are the mainstream opinion of African Americans.

Very interesting, being that you're Native American and all, that you watch that gross video and react by defending the slobs mocking Native Americans and cussing out the protesters.

Also, yeah! This is about Trotsky!

Logo is going away, as some predicted that isnt enough....

That's not how things work young man.

If you decide to, sure it is. It's everyone's choice to continue this debate or not. Regardless, the team made a decision, so debating this now is kind of pointless IMO.

Let me spell this out for you because reading comprehension is not a strong suit.

-The people who were in that video were idiots. Anyone living in the year 2018 could tell you that.
-The people doing this crap hold no money, no influence or no power. AS SOMEONE WHO IS PART NATIVE AMERICAN? their opinions hold no relevance to me. if this was Senator Portman, Mayor Frank Jackson or the CEO of Sherwin Williams? Different story.
-"American Indian Movement" or "AIM" is indeed to Native Americans what the Black Panthers are to African Americans. Yes, that gentleman (unbeknownst to him) was correct.

As someone who is part native american? I don't feel comfortable with those people speaking on my behalf to media, elected officials and corporations.

If you are actually part native I'm grabbing the biggest box of popcorn I can find.

Appreciate you spelling it out, but your spelling it out skills are suspect because I don't know if your first two points refer to the protesters or the fans. Shrug.

Apparently you know all of the anti-Wahoo protesters and that they all represent one group (this is categorically not true). Even if every protester was in AIM or a Marxist... who cares? Doesn't make the protest any less credible and certainly doesn't make those neanderthals eff you-ing peaceful protesters any less ridiculous.

Both sides hold no relevance to me, yes

AIM is garbage. The people engaging with them are idiots.

My point is why listen to marxists of any ilk? I would prefer not to listen to far right facists or far left marxists on this issue.

I am not against a name or logo change. Again i cheer for the city, not the team name. I just don't want it done because 3 marxists who happen to share native american heritage with me are screeching extra loud about it

If someone representing say "cherokee nation of oklahona" were the ones discussing the issue? I will listen and side with them. But never AIM/Marxists. I don't generally support those with sympathies to the black panthers, do you?

When they're being called "Marxists"? Even as ignorant as that guy is? He's correct.
The people protesting this are marxists. These are not normal lefties.

Period. This is who you're defending.

Marrxists.

And i reject that idealogy whole sale. Its trash and the people who support are idiotic rubes.

Again I'm apathetic about the name change but I will be DAMNED if I will be lectured by anyone that subscribes to that shit idealogy.

The name change notwithstanding, this entire line of reasoning does not seem to make much sense because (1) you've not said how or why you've identified the protesters as Marxists; (2) you've not explained how/why your interpretation of their protest as Marxist or Marxist-informed invalidates the point they're trying to make?

Maybe if you could slow down and just explain what you mean it might make a bit more sense, but just calling these folks "Marxists" and then explicitly discounting their protest upon that basis doesn't really make much sense ... and FWIW, I am very up to speed on Marxist ideology.

BTW, you can understand how others who are also part Native American do feel comfortable with these protests right? So you see how this statement goes both ways?

And to add? (Again) I would much prefer these efforts be made towards having first nations history in k-12.

That would go a long way to actually educate people on it and reduce harmful stereotypes like wahoo in the long run.

This stuff does nothing but just breed resentment against people imo.
