Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can you summarize? Like super-quick, I don't want to waste your time.

Mostly some questionable short yardage calls, was a large problem for him in Pittsburgh with some low percentage plays being used in crucial situations.

Its a large part of the reason, along with questions about his personal life, which ran him out of Pittsburgh.

I just saw the magary "why your team sucks" piece and he insisted Mayfield would have been available to the Browns at 4.

There was another person in the "letters" package that insisted Ward was not "One of the 4 blue chip prospects in this draft". (I imagine Chubb, Barkley)

Are these going to be the talking points if:
a.) Rosen, Darnold, Allen succeed.
b.) Barkley or Chubb (who are on teams that have an established culture) break out early.

Because...it's frustrating and not true. I mean the reports were out there that the Giants had a trade in place with the PATRIOTS who had the intent of taking Mayfield. The Jets were also rumored to want him for whatever reason.

Also was Ward considered one of those 4 blue chip prospects?

I wouldn't get too angry about the "Why your team sucks" series on Deadspin.

It's written intentionally to make fans upset.

Yeah. Honestly though this recent one was disappointing. Drafting Mayfield even after one considers the track record of QB's like him? that's generally a good route to go. But...like you don't need to pull stuff out of your ass for it.

Usually there's a few gems but I didn't see any this go around.

The expectations for Tyrod Taylor need to be dramatically cut down, IMO.

Independent of my own thoughts on Mayfield, Taylor has historically been pretty underwhelming. I realize that he may be able to suffice as "better than what the Browns have had" moniker people like to toss around, but that doesn't make him good.

Couple that with this team's complete inability to get the best out of players, and I don't really see the level of excitement others do, even if this team is obviously more talented.
I'm actually shocked that you don't like Tyrod Taylor when I've seen you support Alex Smith.

Between the two of them, I consider them similar. This past season was the first time Smith has ever thrown for so many yards--and it's not even close.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Tyrod as a bridge QB and useful guy while grooming a replacement.

The difference is that Smith has quite simply been a better player.

I don’t disagree. I think Smith is a solid B+ quarterback and Tyrod is a B- at this moment.

There is also a large age difference working in Tyrod’s favor.

Age doesn’t matter given that he’s our temporary “win now” QB, but I wouldn’t rule out Tyrod having a similar career to Smith. Both are very conservative, tend not to force the ball down the field, and have the ability to gain yards on the ground and out of structure.

5 years ago, Smith looks a lot like Tyrod. This last season was the first he’s really made an effort to take down-field shots.

I think Smith is a little more accurate. Tyrod is a little more mobile.

I just consider them similar players.

Well, looking good at camp is certainly better than looking bad at camp. I’ll take it.

Pragmatic take. I agree completely.

I don't really disagree about Taylor being underwhelming overall throughout his career.. But has he ever had the talent, and coaching he's going to have here in Cleveland throughout his career with the Bills? I don't think so.

I'm not talking about Hue Jackson either. Todd Haley will bring out the best in a lot of guys here I believe, Taylor being one of them.

You'll have two top wide receivers to throw to in Gordon and Landry. Coleman should have a better season, Njoku is someone that should only improve and be a threat. Then you have a trio of backs in this system that will help the passing game, especially Duke Johnson.

I also really love Callaway. I think he will dominate given the chance, especially with all the attention elsewhere on offense.

I just believe us fans are so hyped on Tyrod Taylor because he's probably gonna be the best guy we've had under center since who knows when. He doesn't turn the ball over a lot, and that's something we will all love I think after going through what Kizer did all last season.

Then you have Mayfield waiting in the wings.. It's finally nice to get a good quarterback room.

Are we not going to discuss the bucket hat? I feel like there’s something to say but I’m not sure where to start.
