Corey Coleman

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Weird move.

But I was actually telling my buddies the other day after watching Corey’s training camp media availability how much his attitude rubbed me the wrong way.

He seems to have no sense of urgency or passion. A reporter asked about Todd Haley’s quote that this was a “make or break year” for Coleman, and he responded with “nah I’m not gonna go that far” with a very entitled, nonchalant tone.

I think he can be a good WR in the league and maybe this is what he needed to light a fire in his belly...but I can totally see how the organization soured on him.

Guy wasn’t good but I wanted to see him this year.

As others have said, must’ve been a real piece of shit.

The timing of this makes me wonder if there was something that's gonna be on the first ep of hard knocks that either made them want to move him or if it would have made it hard to trade him after it aired and the plan all along was to shop him during training camp?

My point being that you don't dump a guy like this unless something is up.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think a team that has lost 31 of their last 32 games is in any position to just dump young talent.

If Callaway/Higgins beat him out for snaps come regular season, then so be it, but to count on them & Gordon right now is not smart, IMO.
Absolutely where I stand.

I don’t have a ton of confidence that Corey was going to emerge this year, but for the price of a late, late pick... I’m sure as hell keeping him to find out.

There better have been something that we don’t know about. Because otherwise, just let camp battles solve themselves naturally. Maybe let’s see him in some preseason games... Worst case, you deal him like you just did. Best case, he looks good in the preseason and resuscitates his trade value if you are intent on moving him. It’s not crazy to think that he’d be a tough-cover for other team’s 2nd units.

I’m not even a Coleman fan, but he’s had limited time due to health over his first 2 years, has shown flashes when healthy, was a first round pick for a reason, and has had the worst QB’s in the league throwing to him for his entire career in RGIII, Kessler, Kizer, and Hogan.

In terms of attitude, taking a note from Juice Landry, he had declined his rest day and had a fabulous day at camp. I’d have to think the light was at least flickering.

There is an average to decent chance that we will regret this trade. I just don’t understand the reasoning of doing it now. It could’ve been done at the end of camp given the terrible compensation.

He either is absolutely a disaster personally or Paul DePodestra has absolutely no say in anything anymore.

Seems like all of a sudden, someone in the browns org is making decisions. If the guy is not getting what you are telling him, you move him while he has value..

The latter has been true since the day Dorsey got hired IMO.

I’m actually surprised Paul still works for the team. I expected him to quietly part ways after last season. But I guess there’s something appealing about cashing fat checks from California on what amounts to a consulting job.

Considering the current options to replace Coleman are...

1. A recovering addict who is currently away from the team because of stress triggers
2. A 2018 4th round pick who has never played a snap
3. A 2016 5th round pick that most people on this board would have told you two weeks ago was terrible
4. A career special teamer
5. A litany of undrafted free agents

Me thinks this has more to do with Coleman’s attitude, work ethic and off the field issues than anything to do with his on field potential.

This was an attitude and culture thing. TBH I remember watching a behind the scenes video of Corey getting drafted by the Browns. He looked really upset and disappointed that it was Cleveland. He, like Johnny, Justin, and others, were legends in their own minds and didn't want to be here. Too good for Cleveland. Have to take the trash out. I think Peppers is another one, but that is tbd.

Guys like Myles, Baker, Denzel, Ogbah, Landry...they were excited for the opportunity here. Corey Coleman was a malcontent, dropped the pass that led to 0-16, was not committed. Have fun in Buffalo. If you thought Cleveland was far from the lime light, well buddy boy, you are in for something now.

When will we hear about the actual pick?
