Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Did you hear Gruden trash his pass rush last week? Some nerve

I can't figure out if he doesn't realize how stupid it was to say or if he meant it as a joke without realizing that he is the last person on the planet who should make that joke.

This Gruden signing may set the Raiders back a long time... they look better today, but it’s still painful. I’m not disappointed that they’ll be Baker’s second matchup.

A few observations of the Browns after watching some games today:

1) if we dont have the best defense in the league, it's close. Our secondary has come a long, long way. And our front 7, with Williams coaching and scheme, is probably among the best in football. Watching Brees carve up the Falcons just goes to show how good that defense is going to be.

2) the division is fucking terrible. The Bengals with AJ is just a below average team with a turnover machine in Dalton. Half decent defense, though.

Ravens may be the best team at the moment, but if Joe Flacco becomes Joe Flacco again, they are incredibly one dimensional.

We'll see with the Steelers but having already seen them, I'm not at all concerned with them.

3) the Raiders stink. They throw short a bunch and run power. Stunk in the 1990's.

4) thank God we passed on Trubisky. He is not at all good. He looks worse than any 2018 rookie so far and if we compare him to Mahomes or Watson, he is really far behind.

5) on the opposite hand, all of the '18 guys look awesome. Although Rosen didnt have much of a chance *Mike McCoy sucks* they all definitely look like they belong. Josh Allen looked really good today, I'm shocked how far he came.

Sources say the Browns have a better record than the Patriots. Trying to confirm as this surely is not possible.

Any chance we could go to Tyrod and ask him if he would like to start in SF? (Assuming SF interest)

If he wants to start, trade him. If he’s comfortable backing up, keep him.

We’d need to sign another q.b. though.

To me, it seems pretty simple what the Browns do with Tyrod. If he is willing to be the backup, not complain, and fully participate in practice and game plans, then you keep him.

Conversely, if he asks for a trade, or is just a pain in the ass, then you trade him for whatever you can get.

Agree.

It would be a benefit to the Browns for him to be following Baker around after each series as Josh McCown does for Darnold.

Invaluable for a rookie.

Speaking of McCown, he'd make a great QB coach under Flip when he's coaching the Browns next season.

My buddy is a huge Jets fan and was saying that everyone loves how McCown has taken Darnold under his wing. Basically that McCown is acting as Darnold's personal QB coach. I think that's way cool.

I saw Drew Stanton pulling Mayfield aside on the sidelines often in the preseason and again on Thursday night. McCown is being covered as a storyline, but Stanton is quietly mentoring as well.

Josh McCown Is More Than Just a Backup to Sam Darnold

McCown is the headline in this article but the Stanton-Mayfield relationship is also covered.

Stanton has now mentored 4, #1 overall picks.
