Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Regarding Callaway -- could it very well be Browns separating with Gordon because they don't want that shit around their prized young WR?

I'm liking our team a lot more though. I was pretty worked up over Gordon getting dealt, but if it's truly for the better, then let's go. Oh, and it looked like it's for the better...

Landry and Callaway are guys we want. Build off them. And plus, a good QB makes guys like Higgins look sneaky good.

I think Higgins had all the tools to be good already. He just needs volume. When you get him the ball, he makes plays. He's not terribly athletic by NFL standards, but he was absolutely dominant in college and had a 91st percentile breakout age. Those are two metrics you like to see from a young WR prospect.

If Baker continues to play something like how he did Thursday, I think it'll have the effect of the high tide lifting all boats. There will be longer drives and more passes, which means more volume to go around for everyone and more snaps to get different guys involved, which means more chances for guys like Higgins and Njoku to actually get targets and prove what they can do.

I think it helps Callaway's development to not have Gordon around because he will certainly get more snaps. I think he got the most snaps against the jets out of anyone on offense other than our 5 starting o-linemen.

I still believe that the front office might have thought differently about Gordon if Baker was the QB when Gordon's stuff went down. Gordon was a sure handed playmaker that would have definitely helped a rookie QB. Having Tyrod as our QB might have just added to the equation of letting Gordon go. Tyrod was never going to get Gordon the targets and down field throws to keep Gordon happy. He was only targeted 3 time in week 1. Baker looks so much more trusting of his receivers and is willing to make throws than Tyrod. Gordon's ideal route tree and Tyrods preferred throws just didn't mesh.

I think I mentioned in the game thread that it sucks we traded Gordon three days before we switched to a QB who could actually throw to him. :chuckle:

As far as Baker goes, you can tell watching him that he has the playbook fucking memorized. He knows exactly where everyone is supposed to be and trusts that they'll be there.

Gordon, Landry, and Callaway with Duke getting in the mix is as close to as ideal of a receiver group for Baker's skill set.

He will still shine with Landry, Callaway, Higgins, and Duke. Gordon would have just been that extra down field threat to pair on the outside with Callaway. Landry and Duke would have had the inside open to make plays. Tyrod wasn't ever going to throw to the outside and down field enough to make defenses cover the whole field.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves... but the future sure does look bright.

As for Dorsey + Sashi... Sashi didn't pay for solid contributors that would have been worth keeping around, namely Benjamin and Mitchell Shwartz, even if it meant a bit of an overpay. Dorsey is far more willing, and I think that'd create a clash that wouldn't allow for the best of both worlds.

Sashi’s job and plan was to move the organization down to its studs due to it being a condemned building by the city. The foundation was cracked and needed redone. In terms of basketball he played the Chris Grant role.

Dorsey came in after the job of asset collection and restructuring of the foundation was done. Dorsey had a war chest because of sashi and that’s a fact. In terms of basketball he’s playing the Griffin role.

I am puzzled as to why the raiders are favored in our game next week.Even with Tyrod statistically we are better in pretty much every category..

The official line isn’t out yet since Week 3 isn’t even over, but generally speaking the home team typically gets 3 points regardless of record.

The reason that the Browns are the first team to do a full three year Sam Hinkie bottoming out is that it only had to be one season. Like Hinkie, Sashi's limitations in vital areas of assembling a roster outside of the business side led to The Process lasting entirely too long, and led to the next GM using those assets far more effectively once GMs were switched out. Go ahead and respect the business side if that's why you like pro sports, but don't lose sight of the vital importance of actually knowing how to add winning players

Let’s look at the big picture here, sashi got us a lot of decent building blocks over the past few years. Garrett, Njoku, Peppers, Schobert, Higgins, Zeitler (FA), Body-Calhoun, Ogunjobi, colquitt, got us a pick for Gilbert somehow, signed players that netted us picks (McCorty, etc). He also set us up to draft Ward and Corbett. I still think Kessler was actually hue’s guy. I’m also sure there’s more guys then this, but that’s what I can think of off the top of my head. If we turn it around a year earlier, we don’t have Ward, Corbett, Njoku, or peppers. We might not even have Garrett.

He also saved us from dumping assets for AJ McCarron.

I don’t even think it’s a question on who the worst browns gm of all time is and that is not sashi. It’s farmer and it’s by far.

We can certainly agree that Farmer followed by Sashi was a whole lot of failed plans back to back. Having a new owner in Jimmy Haslam who was initially over his head and impulsive didn't help before that duo. The franchise ses to finally be on the right track. Comparing the plans of the past is comparing turds to shit.

I think Sashi's biggest problem was retaining talent. He was also too quick to cut or trade vets before the young guys had a chance to even prove themselves on the field. He was too willing to open up starting spots for draft picks without them earning it. It's something that couldn't have worked long term.

Farmer is definitely high on the list of bad GMs but the Mangini/Kokinis was real bad too. Mangini ran the draft we got Alex Mack and everyone else was a bust. He has admitted he used a draft guide from a independent scout to make his picks. There were alot of rumors that Kokinis was just a GM in name and Mangini was always running the show.
