Cleveland Indians 2018-2019 Offseason Outlook

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@JMcCurry08 we never did hear what you would do in the off season for the Indians

Also the Dodgers have money and they have trade assets as well, so they are trying to win it all this year and they are going to go all out like normal to do so. They will be linked to a lot of guys this off season to fill in their holes.

I doubt Bellinger is on the table, but if he’s is he’s obviously the guy I would want the most.

Assuming he’s not available, I would be willing to do Verdugo, Pederson and two other top prospects (Ruiz, May, Lux)

I’m not overly interested in getting Alex Wood just to be the No. 4/No. 5 starter for one year.

That deal above would give the Indians two OF who can help right now (yes, Joc would have to be platooned, but if he gives you an .875 OPS against RHP over 450 total plate appearances, you live with that) and reinforcements for 2020 and beyond.

With all of this Dodgers talk, any interest in Julio Urias? Still young, has/had front of the rotation projections, and the Dodgers have some SP depth to deal from. Or are his past injuries too much of a concern?

He is only 22 still, but we don't know how the injuries effected him long term. I would honestly say though if he is apart of the deal then no complaints since I feel a guy like Dennis Santana or Urias should be included rather than Wood, but that is personal preference. I think the Indians won't do the deal unless its like a Verdugo, Pederson/Ferguson (MLB ready OF or spot starter/reliever essentially) then 2 of the following guys: Urias, Santana, Ruiz, Lux, May, Beaty.

I doubt anything lower than that will have the Indians looking elsewhere, so if Urias is healthy he will be on the list, but his value is down from the Dodgers side so they may not part with him cause of his value isn't as good as it used to be.

Would anybody do this trade:

CLE gets: Alex Verdugo, Alex Wood, Joc Pederson
LAD gets: Corey Kluber, Jason Kipnis

I feel like if the Dodgers were offering Bellinger, then we'd already have a deal struck. If we can't get him, then I would demand that we can dump off Kipnis on them. We then reallocate the money we save by dumping Kipnis's deal off to re-sign Brantley, hoping that we would be able to open the checkbook back up a bit.

LF - Brantley
CF - Pederson/Martin
RF - Verdugo/Naquin
3B - Diaz
SS - Lindor
2B - Ramirez
1B - Alonso
C - Perez/Haase
DH - Encarnacion

SP - Bauer
SP - Carrasco
SP - Clevinger
SP - Wood
SP - Bieber

I would think about this, but like I've said 1000 times, I really suck ass at putting together MLB trades.
I’d rather take prospects than 1 year of Alex Wood as our 5th starter

So basically, IF the Dodger rumors are true, its Kluber for prospects. Yes, Verdugo is a good prospect, but still a prospect. Prospects for a top 5 pitcher in the game on a good contract. Exactly what i feared would happen this off-season.

Didn’t think my opinion meant that much :chuckle:

1) trading Kluber for best package possible of prospects and major league ready talent

2) try to dump off EE or Kipnis’ remaining salary

3) use the money freed up to get some bullpen arms and another OFer or two

Yankees open to moving Andujar

Would love to get him back in a deal for Kluber
Interesting. Andujar certainly would be a nice addition to the Indians' lineup. His defense at third base isn't super great though, right? I'm not sure what other position(s) he can play.

Andujar is another guy who had his numbers inflated a bit by playing at that tee-ball stadium in the Bronx. Not taking anything away from him, but there is a pretty sizeable OPS and HR/AB shift between him in New York and him on the road.

Still a hell of a talent.

Fun fact: I'm blocked by Buster Olney on twitter. One day probably about a year and a half ago, he sent a tweet in all caps and I responded "watch the caps lock old man" and was blocked within fifteen seconds. :chuckle:
