JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Damn Dieng's salary goes from 16 this year to almost 17 next year. Yikes.

Yeah Dieng ties up money this season and next. I'd rather not do that right now, it will limit what moves we can make later with our expirings.

Do the trade @Man Called X suggested

After all the FAs sign and teams are left empty handed but with cap space for days, try to trade one of them TT, Knight, or Clarkson. If no takers, just outright stretch either TT or Knight.

That trade or stretch should eliminate any tax concerns from the JR deal. And we’d still have plenty of expirings to use at the deadline of any other opportunities present themselves as they did last year

Dieng has 2 years left, Teague 1 year if I’m trading for Dieng it’s an unprotected first, Teague maybe top 5 protected.....Question what lottery type team have Cap space to sit on a bad contract.....

Dieng and a top 8 protected 2020 for JR.

Get it done Koby.
I'd go Top 4 2019, Top 1 2020 if original pick doesn't convey. They're gonna be playoffs w Russell and KAT. The disaster scenario should be the only protection they get.

That being said I could see Phx have interest in Teague once they strike out everywhere else. Can also see the Kings try and outright absorb Dieng for the same asset given their cap space.

I’d need a little more than a top 8 protected pick to take on 30M of Dieng over the next two years.

The Wolves are the ones desperate to shed salary. Gotta pay up.

Yeah, I think we'd be silly to do that. Stretch Knight or TT, which further clutters our 2020-21 cap situation along with Dieng's dead money for a pick that could be 20-something? Nah.

Actually....TT to Sacramento makes a ton of sense given the WCS situation. TT skill set goes along very well with their current team. If they could absorb him outright that'd be great.

Clarkson could really go a ton of places after FA settles. So taking on someone for JR wouldnt be the end of the world.

Also it looks like to create space for what the assumed Russell price tag would be they would need to trade both of Teague and Dieng while taking on little to no salary back.

I suppose they could trade one for JR or to a dap space team and then stretch provision the other.

We have so much 20-21 cap space it’s just not an issue

Unless you believe 1-2 full max players are going to be on the market and choose to come here(spoiler alert, won’t happen)

So we could in theory take on Dieng(if the draft compensation was enough), stretch one of our guys and STILL have 40-50M on cap space to use in the way the Hawks did with that Nets trade last week.

I mentioned this in another section, but I would take on Wiggins if given the right compensation. He fits our timeline and we have a need at SF. I know it would be ideal to keep our cap available, but I don’t think we’re going to have a lot of free agents looking to come here, so taking a gamble on a contract like Wiggins isn’t that terrible in my mind.

I’d take Wiggins if they’re giving ample compensation in the way of multiple future 1sts.

A non-contending team with cap room, like Atlanta, New Orleans, Sacramento, or New York, will take on Teague and/or Dieng if it will net them a first round pick. JR’s contract is not it as advantageous as it will still count $3.5 million towards their cap. Additionally, the Cavs aren’t anxious to go further into the luxury tax unless it’s an absolute no brainer of a deal.
