2022 Summer League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Guys are more likely to get injured the most fatigued they are. That fatigue, over the course of the practices and games, adds up, which results in higher chance of injury.

Teams are sitting their guys because the last game results in the highest chance of injury, but the earlier games are more competitive and they want their guys out there for that.

Dylan Winder is example A when you're talking specifically Summer League and this stuff. It's no different than 'load management' throughout the regular season.

I also think there is some protecting higher draft picks or guys that have showed out in summer league to that point. Like some G-league level talent might decide they are going to play that much harder again OA because he was drafted #14 and has had a couple good game to try to get an shot at the NBA. The urgency from the fringe guys to make a mark at summer league would get more and more as games go on. In the last game, teams got to worry about players trying too hard because they might view it as their last chance for a while to get noticed by NBA teams.

This is a legit question. I haven't watched the grizzlies and didn't watch David Roddy in college.

All I have to go on are his college numbers, his experience, and his profile.

Why is Agbaji a late lottery pick and Roddy a guy that falls to 23?

Amd I wrong for looking at both guys and thinking they're extremely close as prospects coming out of college. With some points in favor of each guy?

Mr.Orange's model gonna take a massive BM if Dieng blows and OA blows up.

Just saw this. Wrong again. (Maybe take a break from posting?)

If the model of “take the guy with the realistic highest upside” is over, then I guess the NBA draft will stop drafting guys who are one and done or overseas guys and only look at college juniors and seniors. You want safe low floor guys? Ok but you will miss out on KD, Giannis, Luka, etc. Heck, by your logic, back in the HS player days you would have passed on Lebron. Let’s just say that “GM Sir Dom” would have been fired.

Well, on that note, the Rockets bucked the trend and played their guys.

Good on them imo.

Watching the Rockets games is not helping. :chuckle:

Eason comfortably taking and making 3’s in summer league is vomit inducing. He looks like a potentially average 3 point shooter out of the gate. He also is just an extremely strong, physical guy. He was rag dolling that poor dude trying to guard him.

REB / AST / STL / BLK combined in summer league:

13, 16, 17, 13, 14

Guys. Mentally prepared yourself for him to be a lot better than you’d like him to be. :chuckle:

Edit: I also just noticed the stats finally updated. He led Summer League in rebounding, as a 3. Yikes.

This is all I'll say on it until a good ways I to the season.

I think we passed on an almost guaranteed longterm starter at SF and potentially more than that and yes, I think hoping LeBron comes back played a part in that and THAT thought makes me wanna shoot a nail through my eye.

Now I'll just rant in DMs about it.

Eason picked 17th.

Okoro 5th.

How?

Eason shot 36.8% (7-19) on 3s in summer league. Agbaji shot 37.5% (12-32). But of course we know that Agbaji will be a great shooter and is a sure thing while Eason can’t shoot at all.

It’s got nothing to do with Lebron coming back it’s just about being “risk averse” and afraid to scout and trust your own scouting

It's about them putting too much value into individual workouts.

I am positive Eason is a really quality NBA player by midway through his 2nd season at the latest.

I'll donate 250 bucks if that's not true. Just need someone to come up with reasonable barometers for what constitutes "quality NBA player."

I think there’s a good chance that in his rookie year Eason is already a better than average defender at his position, averages double digits in scoring, and shoots 35%+ from 3

I think Roddy's body type and questions of what position he would play made him the lesser prospect. I also think OA was on the best team in the country which usually gives some extra points and exposure.

From Roddy highlights in college to what I saw in Summer league, he looks leaner and closer to an NBA body. Memphis likes guys with odd body types and I'm not sure how many other teams would have draft Roddy in the first round because of his body type. I think the rest of the NBA is alot more scared of players with body types that aren't proven in the NBA.

25 mpg. Per of 15 or over, non-negative VORP and BPM?

Eason is annoying because he plays really big and he plays hard. He will be able to play a lot of positions and is very versatile.

The shooting is non comparable between the two. Yes, Eason so far shoots better than expected, but his shots are wide open from the corners. Agbaji's are all contested, a lot are on the move and off balance.

But that's not what's this about. Eason can be a real positive contributor with or without a good shot. He just stuffs the stat sheet and he does it in an impactful way.
