2022 Summer League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just met Nemhard, couldn't be a dick. Had to hit him with the "good game and good luck"
As long as you got an ass slap in when you said "good game" that's what really matters.

So here's my thing.

If it doesn't matter at all, why play any of the rookies at all?

I truly don't get the whole "shut down the rookies for the last game" thing that goes on.

If they get hurt in the 3rd game vs. the last game, will you feel any less stupid? Does playing the 3rd game make a difference that the 4th does not?
I suppose EJ Liddell wish he didn’t play at all…..Every team does it, like someone said there no developments going on at all….I’m surprised OA even played 4 games.

Kabengele who played for us in 2020 looks like a completely different player. Bulked up and can really ball, has a nice shooting stroke now too.

Because everybody who knows anything knows that summer league doesn't matter?
No shit Sherlock. Day late and a dollar short. The game is over and I’ve moved on.

But there are guys not in the NBA that can fill that role. I get Nembhard on paper, but he doesn't do enough, or provide enough upside, to keep him on a 2-way. At least not to me.

I'd still love to get Jordan Hall on a two way contract. I think the Spurs didn't use him properly in summer league, which might have been on purpose. He seem to make some nice passes here and there but I think other players out played him just because he wasn't asked to play the point and barely got the ball. They might have ask him to play off ball to see what he had and know if they can make him a better off ball player, he will be more versatile long term. They just might not have enough roster spots or two ways spots for him so they could be looking to sneak him on to their G-league team to develop. I also think they have enough young guards that he wouldn't be likely to be called up even if he was on a two way until he developed more off ball unless they had a bunch of injuries.

I think he is a better fit for the Cavs than the Spurs. Have him develop long term to play the point to hopefully take over for Neto/Rubio. If he is on a two way with the Cavs, he could possibly play some point for the Cavs before Rubio comes back and then send him to the G-league to work on playing off ball when we don't need him. He might surprise us and be a better fit than Neto with our current roster at the beginning of the season.

So when RJ played in the NBA was the talent too great for him to be able to score? I like his game. He doesn't pass that's fine. Can he score at an NBA level?

He had his moments. Seemed to me like the game hadn't slowed down when he was with us.

It usually that's the case that G-league players like him wont be able to score efficiently in the NBA because of the better talent but also limited touches. He will have to earn his spot and touches more than a first or second round pick.

Players like him just don't understand that NBA teams don't want someone like him to come in and take up a bunch of touches to score. They want a PG that can pass to the better talent they already have on the roster. If we were a tanking team with no guard depth, maybe he could come in as a scoring guard but even then he would be competing with alot of players just like him to get that sort of chance.

G-league players in general just need understand that working up the hierarchy of the NBA for them is more like a regular job than like other NBA players. They aren't given the benefit of the doubt that draft picks and vet are given.

Jamrio moon was a great example of this. He was a super athlete even by nba standards but the rest of his game lagged. He focused on rebounding and especially D from the SF spot. Won DPOY in one of the minor leagues (aba?) And then got signed by the raps and had a solid 5ish year career after he turned 25

Guys are more likely to get injured the most fatigued they are. That fatigue, over the course of the practices and games, adds up, which results in higher chance of injury.

Teams are sitting their guys because the last game results in the highest chance of injury, but the earlier games are more competitive and they want their guys out there for that.

Dylan Winder is example A when you're talking specifically Summer League and this stuff. It's no different than 'load management' throughout the regular season.
