Cade York Returns?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why can't we cut him and put him on the practice squad? Clearly he's not ready for the big time but he has leg talent. If he gets picked up by someone, I hope it's from a team we play during the first few games of the season.

That's an option too. I guess it really depends on how much control the team wants over him and if they want to use a IR to return spot or practice squad spot on him. Like they cut Schwartz and put an injury designation on him so if he doesn't get picked up, he will be on IR for the year.

With Cade they are only going to take him off the 53 man roster when they have his replacement so he can be on the initial 53 man roster and get put onto IR or IR to return without going through waivers.

The giant issues here:

1. Very few kickers carry the upside necessary to justify being patient
2. The browns will have razor thin margins to make the playoffs this year. You can’t just lose a game or 2 that’s winnable for development purposes
Last year after Watson's suspension was a lost year. No reason to have York work throughout the year. This year is a different scenario. That one extra loss could be the difference between winning the division at 10-7 or being the eight place team one spot out of a wildcard spot at 9-8 will various tie breakers, especially a divisional loss.

I don't think this is particularly worth doing. He's either gotta be kicking in real games or off the roster completely IMO.

By all accounts York has been an awesome kicker in practice, an awesome kicker in scrimmages against other teams, an awesome kicker in warmups before the real games. But he just has a mental hurdle he hasn't been able to clear when he's kicking in actual games.

Being on the practice squad and going 10-for-10 every practice isn't really going to do anything to change that.

Guys, he has a shin injury:

Everything is gonna be fine once he gets healthy. They just need to snatch up a veteran and give the shin a year or two to heal up.

I'd be cool with Dustin Hopkins. He's not good beyond 50 yards (worse than York is actually) but is pretty reliable under 50.

I'm waiting, waiting for the final cut.

A monumental failure from York. Unreal. I put at least a share of the blame on last year's special teams coaching as well.

Don't draft kickers. I'd argue picking the actual players on draft day appears to be the weakest part of Berry as a GM.

It had to happen. Glad Berry understood this and didn't fall for the sunk cost fallacy.

With Cade, Schwartz, likely some others...the narrative that Berry blindly keeps his guys to the detriment of the team needs to go away.
