2023 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Other than the coaching question going into next year….do we think McCord starts? Is there a chance that Kienholz beats him out or McCord enters the portal? Could Brown push for the job? A little concerned that he didn’t beat McCord out in 2023.

I think Day has to look in the portal and see who he can get. He probably would have to do it quietly until he secures the guy he wants. You don't want to lose McCord, Brown, or any of the other QBs until Day secures a replacement. I think a competition between who we already have should be the backup plan if we can get someone better.

I would give Kienholz a chance if they go to a competition. I believe a QB who can use their legs would help the offense but I'm not sure Day puts much weight into a QB that can run.

Go get Archibald if Ewers stays at Texas

I'd rather go get the best college QB in Ohio...DeQuan Finn.
Manning is said to only got his rating bc of his name. When ewers was out Manning wasn't the next man up. That tells you that Sark didn't trust him so why should we?

Pac 12 had a resurgence this year bc they had 2nd years with previous starting qbs such as Nix, Phenix, and Ugaleilei(spelling). Manning wouldn't fit that mold nor fit Justin Fields athletic profile.

I agree that'd I wouldn't even look at Manning.

I don’t know whether or not he can but his spring injury was a significant set back

OSU should explore all options including the portal and an open QB competition this Spring. That said, I am curious what Kyle McCord would look like with a decent QB coach... Corey Dennis is not that. Day may be the de facto coach for the starting QB, but he's clearly stretched beyond his capabilities. Either he needs to give up play calling or hire a QB coach that isn't a woefully unqualified nepotism hire.

Why has he earned coming back? 1-6 against top-5 teams. 1-3 against Michigan. 3 losses to Michigan in a row. He is literally John Cooper. Bring in somebody to coach this insanely talented roster and you may win a title a la Jim Tressel in 2003.

*As long as we find a QB.

Cooper's record was much worse than Day's, and the Michigan teams Cooper lost to often were not very good teams. Michigan has had a very good team the last 3 years.

I’m hoping for a homerun Mike Vrabel hire personally
How would Mike Vrabel be a home run? He has never recruited, he is not an offensive coach, and he has said he is an NFL guy. Why would you take a risk on an NFL coach who is about to get fired? OSU has the second recruiting class coming in. Do you think the players will stay if you bring in a totally different coach and run the risk of missing the playoffs? OSU will have no issue making the playoffs next year with Day. If Day gets fired, next season could be a disaster because some fans cannot take losing three years in a row to a great team. They were a field goal away from beating UGA, no team has played UGA that close over the past 3 years. None of this matters; Day will be back; Simmons is not canning him. It was a great game too; they did not get beat badly.

I don’t care who else they beat if they don’t beat Michigan and I don’t think Day has the mentality or will power to be the guy to do it. He’s John Cooper 2.0

Vrabel is an Ohio State guy through and through and has been successful everywhere he’s coached. I think he’d be much more like Urban when it comes to Michigan where he has these guys hating them 24/7 365 instead of what Day has them doing now, where the QB says it’s just another game. It all starts with the HC and get out of here with that shit.

I’m also confident we wouldn’t lose the line of scrimmage every year to the best teams we face like we do currently.

He has not been very successful the past two years coaching in one of the weaker divisions in football, and we would have no idea how he can recruit or what would happen to the upcoming recruiting classes or the players on the team that Day has brought in. Day has only gotten better at recruiting since he took over. ScUM is going to have a huge drop off and most likely will not have Cool JIm and some scholarships. This is not the time to get rid of Day because a portion of the fan base are upset they lost a close game. If OSU gets rid of Day, most likely there will be a few years of rebuilding the program. On a what if coach who will most likely be fired soon and all they have is he is a Buckeye Legend. Insanity...

Urban Meyer, who lost badly to teams like Iowa or Purdue, which had some of the best Ohio State teams skill-wise? The same Urban Meyer who lost to MSU with that talented team in 2015? I think people forget some of the L's Urban had, on top of the fact the dude is a pos, IMO. Or even Tressel and how bad OSU got blasted by USC, and in National Title games, he had some really ugly L's, and I love Tressel. On top of the fact that both coaches left on scandals...

"Where the QB says it’s just another game. It all starts with the HC and get out of here with that shit."

Those words are being used against the kid, which is fucking ridiculous. Listen to the second youtube for the full interview if you have not already. OSU fans are fucking insane and I lived on campus from 98-04. McCord is also a good QB too... I wonder if the same fans clamoring for Day's head are the ones that want Stefanski gone every time the Browns lose a game...

Harbaugh said the rivalry is mostly manufactured and OSU fans are still complaining that their QB doesn’t give media quotes about the rivalry that make their heart warm.

Get a life and care about something that actually matters…

And yes, the fans whose immediate reaction is to scream into a pillow and demand heads are the same people who do it for the Browns.

That type of fandom is schooled into people and just as worthless now as it’s always been. The most obvious sign that I should just not pay attention to your opinion on the subject.

They never have a single good idea to replace their target, either…

Like others have mentioned, people are quick to forget some of Urban's on field shortcomings because he went 7-0 vs. Michigan, who was unranked in 3 of those years.

2013- losing to Michigan State in Indy on the eve of a national title birth
2014- home loss to a Virginia Tech team that would finish the season 7-6
2015- losing to Michigan State's backup QB at home late in the season with an incredibly talented roster seeking back-to-back titles
2016- shit pumped 31-0 to Clemson
2017- 31 point loss to Iowa
2018- 29 point loss to Purdue

2021 Michigan completely dominated both sides of the lines. 2022 Day was bad and Knowles was much worse. This year- short of turtling at the end of the half- I thought Day was fine.

Cooper's record was much worse than Day's, and the Michigan teams Cooper lost to often were not very good teams. Michigan has had a very good team the last 3 years.

People are seemingly glazing over the fact that Cooper had 10 losses in his last two seasons at OSU. If Day went 6-6, 8-4 and lost to Michigan during those years, then yeah, I'd be considering a replacement.

We are entering the 12 team playoff era and Day has proven he can win bowl games. Who is a better option for us in the immediacy?

I don't think anyone forgets these losses and Day has gotten plenty of credit for winning our favored games and not laying any eggs against inferior opponents.

But winning a championship and having a winning record against Michigan earns you leeway. That's just how it works for many Ohio State fans and I don't see anything wrong with wanting more from our current situation. After 3 shots against Michigan and a chance to beat Georgia, Day has come up empty. I'd like to believe that he can overcome these obstacles if given more chances (Urban never even got close to another title after 2015), but there's no evidence for me to think he's the guy at this point.

Do I think it's the best thing for next season that he be fired? Probably not. But the coaching search should be under way, if not formally. I definitely understand the stance to stand pat right now, I didn't want to overreact the previous two seasons, but how many losses in a row to Michigan should we accept? If he blows it next year but we win a playoff game, do people actually care? The expanded playoff is just a money making venture and I'm confident that a lot of guys could punch tickets at Ohio State. What I care about is the rivalry.
