I guess the reason I DO think it matter's is the fact that every elite team has a sixth man they can go to except us. That was one of our downfalls in the playoffs, NO bench and NO sixth man. Orlando had Pietrus, LA-Odom, Denver-JR smith.....we had?
Delonte could be that guy. I don't understand the whole he's not a Ben Gordon thing because so what? neither is Odom. Odom did a lot of the dirty work (tough rebounds, guarding tough opposing players, and was a good facilitator when Kobe was out). He helped keep the second unit going. He was not a Ben "I never saw a shot I didn't like" Gordon type sixth man.
Again, unless we go out and attain a Gerald Wallace or someone of that stature, I think Delonte should be the sixth man. many people keep talking about how we won 66 games with him and Mo as our back court. Did they forget we also lost in 6 games in the ECF to a team that had Rafer Alston as their starting PG? Adding Delonte just gives us more depth and keeps him from 37-42 minutes a game. He can get his 30-35 a game and still finish out the 4th qtr on the court without racking up 18-20 minutes in the first half like before.
Any news on this?
LinkJust talked to Anthony Parker's agent. Things are settled, he'll sign it early next week. Cavs still shopping, but nothing else real close.
Yea, Alston was their point guard...but did anybody actually watch the series? The guy supposed to be guarding Alston for what appeared to be the vast majority of the time was (stop me if you know this one already) Lebron. The defensive schemes were down right stupid that we threw at Orlando, IMHO, and we didn't make adjustments as the series wore on.
I also am skeptical that Parker would be able to guard opposing starting SG on a regular basis. The guy is 34, and he's going to start showing it pretty soon. He was a mediocre-at-best starting SG on a terrible team last season and his PER was only about 12 last season for crying out loud. He's a solid pickup for a back 2 with size, experience and talent. In all likelihood, he's brought in to fill in the minutes that Wally and Sasha would have gotten, not uproot Delonte from a role he fit to a "T" and thrived in.
Frye has been on a decline every year, why would we want him here?
This is the last chance we have to build a championship team for years to come or LeBron is gone. Shaq is one and done, AV's best talent is being a flopper, Parker is old, and Frye is sucky. We needed artest, we needed ariza, we need someone to solidify our starting lineup. we need an all star next to Lebron.

I agree Delonte fit very well with the role of starting two. But I think Parker is going to surprise a lot of people this year. You have to remember too, he has NEVER played with anyone like a LeBron James or a Shaquille O'neal. Yea Bosh is great, but not the kind of great LBJ is and he certainly isn't the physical presence O'neal is. I just think he will fit very well at the 2 for us if he did start.
As far as the Orlando series, my point wasn't to say it was because of Delonte starting we lost, but to point out what happened last regular season meant nothing come playoff time. We could afford having Wally/Joe and Boobie as our main bench guys in the regular season, but come playoff time we needed a spark and we just didn't have it off the bench and it REALLY hurt us. I completely agree with you about the bad schemes against Orlando and the fact LBJ should have been guarding either Lewis or Turk and Delonte on Lee. We definitely botched the match ups in that series.

And by the way, Lebron has two all-stars next to him for this upcoming season last time I checked and one being the reigning All-Star MVP. Artest and Ariza are not all-star caliber players...
BTW: where did the RedBush: W&G thoughts thread go?
I laughed out loud when I read in a RealGM thread a longtime Portland fan said that Rick Moranis put up more of a defensive effort in Ghostbusters 2 than Channing Frye did in Portland.
He's not exactly the kind of player I am looking for. I think I'd rather have Kleiza...
