Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

I guess the reason I DO think it matter's is the fact that every elite team has a sixth man they can go to except us. That was one of our downfalls in the playoffs, NO bench and NO sixth man. Orlando had Pietrus, LA-Odom, Denver-JR smith.....we had?
Delonte could be that guy. I don't understand the whole he's not a Ben Gordon thing because so what? neither is Odom. Odom did a lot of the dirty work (tough rebounds, guarding tough opposing players, and was a good facilitator when Kobe was out). He helped keep the second unit going. He was not a Ben "I never saw a shot I didn't like" Gordon type sixth man.

Again, unless we go out and attain a Gerald Wallace or someone of that stature, I think Delonte should be the sixth man. many people keep talking about how we won 66 games with him and Mo as our back court. Did they forget we also lost in 6 games in the ECF to a team that had Rafer Alston as their starting PG? Adding Delonte just gives us more depth and keeps him from 37-42 minutes a game. He can get his 30-35 a game and still finish out the 4th qtr on the court without racking up 18-20 minutes in the first half like before.

Yea, Alston was their point guard...but did anybody actually watch the series? The guy supposed to be guarding Alston for what appeared to be the vast majority of the time was (stop me if you know this one already) Lebron. The defensive schemes were down right stupid that we threw at Orlando, IMHO, and we didn't make adjustments as the series wore on.

I also am skeptical that Parker would be able to guard opposing starting SG on a regular basis. The guy is 34, and he's going to start showing it pretty soon. He was a mediocre-at-best starting SG on a terrible team last season and his PER was only about 12 last season for crying out loud. He's a solid pickup for a back 2 with size, experience and talent. In all likelihood, he's brought in to fill in the minutes that Wally and Sasha would have gotten, not uproot Delonte from a role he fit to a "T" and thrived in.

Any news on this?

Windhorst updated his twitter saying the Cavs are still shopping, but nothing is close..

Just talked to Anthony Parker's agent. Things are settled, he'll sign it early next week. Cavs still shopping, but nothing else real close.

It does seem like Frye is our target as of now, unless we expect to do something by trade.

I agree Delonte fit very well with the role of starting two. But I think Parker is going to surprise a lot of people this year. You have to remember too, he has NEVER played with anyone like a LeBron James or a Shaquille O'neal. Yea Bosh is great, but not the kind of great LBJ is and he certainly isn't the physical presence O'neal is. I just think he will fit very well at the 2 for us if he did start.

As far as the Orlando series, my point wasn't to say it was because of Delonte starting we lost, but to point out what happened last regular season meant nothing come playoff time. We could afford having Wally/Joe and Boobie as our main bench guys in the regular season, but come playoff time we needed a spark and we just didn't have it off the bench and it REALLY hurt us. I completely agree with you about the bad schemes against Orlando and the fact LBJ should have been guarding either Lewis or Turk and Delonte on Lee. We definitely botched the match ups in that series.

Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

Frye has been on a decline every year, why would we want him here?
This is the last chance we have to build a championship team for years to come or LeBron is gone. Shaq is one and done, AV's best talent is being a flopper, Parker is old, and Frye is sucky. We needed artest, we needed ariza, we need someone to solidify our starting lineup. we need an all star next to Lebron.

First off, LeBron isn't going anywhere. The whole "If we don't win it all this year he is gone" cliche is all BS and most within the Cavs organization know it. And to simplify the signing of Andy as saying he is just a flopper is a flat out horrible assessment of his talent . Andy does a lot of the dirty work that most NBA fans don't pay attention to, and he is a critical part of our core. As far as Parker, yea he's 34, so what? We only signed him for 2 years, and we will get 2 solid years out of him. Shaq is one and done....Well, if it's 18 and 8 again, that will be a pretty good one and done wouldn't you say? And as far as us getting an all star, who do you suggest? How do we get him? What team is going to just hand us an all star without having to give up half our team to get him? We NEVER thought we'd even have a shot at Ariza or Artest so not getting them doesn't mean the off season has been a failure.

Well unless we make a big trade we are not getting an all-star. Especially with the money we had to spend. By the way, Ariza and Artest have one all-star appearance combined between the two of them. Shaq has already hinted at an extension, but even if he leaves he is a pretty big one before he is done. Parker was signed for half the MLE and is a great fit as a role player for us. Yes is getting older but he isn't going to be asked to log tons of minutes. AV's best talent is being a young dependable big man who hustles and gels with LeBron. Frye is a guy that people, maybe Windy but it could have been others, have said Ferry has targeted before this summer. With the exception of the Larry Hughes summer Ferry has really impressed me as a GM. He has made some great moves (Mo, Delonte, Shaq) and limited his bad ones. If Ferry has had Frye on his short list for a while and thinks he can get him at a decent price then I'm on board with it and I think others on here are too.

Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

What's with the Frye is on a decline stuff?

His rookie year was good. He declined a little the next year, but he played a few more minutes on what I would consider a worse team.

Then he goes to Portland and sees an immediate nine minute drop, followed by another six minute drop to the point that he averages less than a quarter a game of PT.

Of course he's going to be on a decline. You can't put up numbers if you aren't in the game.

I have a hard time believing a guy that young could have such a good rookie year and then just completely fall off.

Portland didn't favor him very much, he sat the bench, the numbers drop.

Things happen.

Fact is, we need a PF. He's a pretty decent young one and we'd be getting him for pretty much nothing with the BAE or the rest of the MLE.

If we used that money on a player at 1-3 or the 5, that guy would hardly ever see the court.

Frye is young, cheap, solid and plays the spot that we need to have bodies for.

It's a no-brainer really. Anyone who wouldn't pull the trigger on that is just being an asshole for the hell of it.

Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

I wonder if W&G or Windy will have a comment about this tomorrow.

BTW: where did the RedBush: W&G thoughts thread go? RedBush had posted something I was reading on my iPhone, but when I got home to finish reading the thread was gone...

WE didn't botch them. MIKE BROWN botched them. MIKE BROWN, the Defense Guru.

What happened to this forum??? - I don't post much, I come here to read the forums but some of these new posters are unbearable...

And by the way, Lebron has two all-stars next to him for this upcoming season last time I checked and one being the reigning All-Star MVP. Artest and Ariza are not all-star caliber players...

I agree. Even though Artest is proven, Ariza was inconsistent in the regular season and had a good postseason. Now he's cashing in, but can he sustain the consistency for an entire season on a team where he will have a bigger role? Other examples of players cashing in on a good postseason: Jerome James, Austin Croshere. Not saying that ARiza won't pan out, just a thought.

I laughed out loud when I read in a RealGM thread a longtime Portland fan said that Rick Moranis put up more of a defensive effort in Ghostbusters 2 than Channing Frye did in Portland.

He's not exactly the kind of player I am looking for. I think I'd rather have Kleiza...

I'd love Kleiza for the right price. He's athletic, can stretch the floor, is MUCH more proven than Frye, and would look great as a PF in small ball.

Also, a bit OT, what are we going to do with Wally's Bird Rights? Can we S&T him for something that's only half-dead?
