Tom Withers:

Izzo expected to consult with Spartans inner cirlce before making decision. Meanwhile, Scott makes more sense if LeBron in Cavs' future.

Gilbert's plane (same link as that provided before) is headed to Boston this morning. Logical explanation would be that they are interviewing Scott today as he is there covering the Finals for ESPN.

Make of it what you will.

That would seem to indicate that the Cavaliers are less than confident that Izzo will accept their offer. In fact, look for Izzo to announce by Monday that he's staying at Michigan State and the Cavaliers will have Byron Scott in tow no later than Wednesday.

I'm happy either way. Glad to see the organization putting such a strong effort into finding a solid coach when it seemed impossible. Izzo and Scott would both be great coaches here.

Maybe, but I am sure the Cavs are covering there bases.....

However, if you watch that clip of Izzo coming back from Cleveland he seems like someone who is about to leave......or maybe just reading to much into it.

Oh my. I have no idea what to think. Izzo or Scott? I like what Izzo brings to the table. He demands respect and gets it. He's coached many NBA players with some of them being great NBA players. He's full of intensity at all times and gets more than 100% effort at all times.

Scott is much more laid back and la-de-da. He reminds me more of Brown. He's also defensive minded so the Cavs would NEED to hire a great offensive assistant to go with him.

Finally; who the hell does LeBron want? I'm guessing Scott, but is that the best coach for the job? Or would it be more of the same we have seen the last few years?

I saw the clip. I think he was apologetic to the media folks hanging out at the airport all evening, while awaiting his arrival from Cleveland. He certainly didn't tip his hand one way or the other.

I just think that when it comes time to meet with his players & staff he won't be able to say goodbye & divest himself from the school. At least that's what happened in 2000 when he flirted with leaving to coach the Hawks.

The whole Gilbert going to Boston thing might not mean anything. It's possible he told Scott he would get a face to face before he felt Izzo would take the job and now he just wants to keep his word. So he can go there quickly and get it out of the way now. Because I think Izzo wants this to be over relatively soon and he might not wanna wait until early next week until after we meet Scott. I don't know, just an idea.

I agree with you, but from an optimistic point of view he's already been through this process before. Ten years ago, he turned down the Hawks' offer because of his friends, family, and fans. But now he's 55 years old, and this is likely the best and last offer he's going to get to coach in the NBA. He gets double the salary, a good chance of coaching LeBron, and an opportunity to follow his ambition of coaching in the NBA. His inner circle and the fans are making the same case they did 10 years ago, but at this stage in his life and career Izzo might feel like it's the right time to move on, regardless of what it would mean to MSU.

Having said all that, I still think he's going to stay because I'm feeling really pessimistic right now...

The look on his face in the video looked like he was going to accept the offer here

Sources say 'lil Izzo is now moving on to 4th period lunch. He's having a tough time deciding between a chicken patty and mexican pizza. When asked about his dad's impending decision - "No comment".

Watching the video, I really think that he will accept the offer. I think this will be over by this evening. I think that he doesn't want to say anything publicly until he gets to speak with the University first. Gilbert flying to Boston is showing that he has done his due diligence and didn't predetermine that Izzo was his guy.

Anyone watch Cleveland Fox 8 news last night? The sports guy (not Rizzo, it's the guy who fills in for Rizzo) talked about Izzo being in Cleveland. But then he went on to say that Lebron has stated that he prefers to play for a coach that has played in the NBA in the past.

This may be old news, but I haven't heard this yet, and I'm not too sure how reliable the guy not named Rizzo from Fox 8 is.

I believe Windy has stated it in one of his writings. However, who knows if it's true at this point or if it's smokescreen.

Windhorst said that originally in his article about Izzo's visit:

According to a source, one thing James has let the organization know is that he's interested in a coach that has played in the NBA. Scott, who had a good relationship with James' close friend Chris Paul, would fit that bill. That is why the Cavs are so interested.

And also why if Izzo does take the job that he may be encouraged to have a staff deep in former NBA players.

I doubt this is his last chance to coach in the NBA. However he likely will never receive an offer as good as this one.

This is probably his last chance to join the NBA AND be successful, I don't see him being able to take over a 60 win team again in the future.
