This statement by Izzo after his trip to Cleveland got me thinking that it's the Cavs actually trying to figure out what to do:

That would be great, but I don't think Byron Scott would be too happy about being an assistant to a rookie NBA coach, even if he's one of the two best college coaches.

Interesting thought. Considering the money it'll take to get Izzo, that would be a huge investment in a coaching staff, as Scott isn't going to take a standard assistant manager's salary to come play second fiddle to a first time NBA coach. I'd like to see the pairing, but I'd be shocked.

It would be cheaper to get Izzo/Scott than it would be to get Phil by himself outta LA. If this investment guarantees you James back in a Cavs uniform, it can't be that bad.

While it would be a step back for Scott, I don't see any other NBA teams beating down his door. I'm sure Gilbert would have a clause that Scott could opt out if offered a HC gig after a certain length of time or a specific situation (Laker Show)
