#1 vs. #1 (Boobie vs. JR Smith)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
i couldn't believe boobie was breaking ankles & creating his own shot on a bigger guard...they were going at it tho,man i love that game:thumbup:

that floater really comes in andy & it was a smart thing to add to his game

It was never a matter of Boobie or JR ... it was Sasha or JR. Even if we signed JR, Gibson would still get his minutes.

JR has all the potential in the world (he can bury 3's, he can get to the rim, he has good size and athleticism), but tonight was a good glimpse of why he still hasn't reached that potential and why Karl still refuses to start him even with AI gone.

And if you're concerned with how Gibson was able to score so easily on Smith, how about how Billups went off against Mo? Also a small guard is supposed to be able to out-quick a bigger guard, but the bigger guard is supposed to counter that by using his height. The problem for JR is that he has no mid-range game ... it's all bombs or dunks.

I'm not saying we should have taken Smith over Mo (I've wanted nothing more than to upgrade the PG spot for years) but we did accept in Mo's case that our team would be able to help cover-up his defensive deficiencies.

Basically, beggars can't be choosers. If you're going to sign a talented player on the cheap you've got to accept some good with the bad and hope you can compensate for his weak areas better than his former team.

No one ever said that it was Boobie OR JR this summer, but since they play similar roles for each of their teams, and since everyone was so high on JR, it seems like an interesting point of comparison.

Especially since we got Boobie for so cheap, and people were talking all kind of crazy trades for JR...some of which included packaging Boobie. But now that we've seen how comfortable Boobie is, and how he's playing - it's good to see that we didn't waste any of our trade pieces on JR.

Boobies a young Chauncey. Just give him time

Smith would be 10x better if he would just drive to the basket instead of sitting in the corner for a 3 ball. As for his Defense, that can be fixed. It's like the whole city of Denver doesn't preach defense(Nuggets,Broncos)

All of this ripping JR for his defense but then praising Boobie because he can drive seems a bit off to me. I love Boobie to death but lets not be blind here. Smith was blowing right by Gibson repeatedly in that second quarter, and he actually forced 3 fouls on Gibson relatively quickly. Gibson has a loooong way to go on defense too fellas.

Oh and as a side note, when Gibson picked up his 3rd foul guess who was subbed in for him.... (lets just call him player X) Guess how many points JR was then able to score once player X came in to guard him.... The answer is 0. In fact, guess how many points player X gave up to any player he was guarding in his 11:30 minutes of play... The answer is again 0. Player X also only touched the ball twice on offense last night (I think because Wally was trying to freeze him out, at least twice shooting contested jumpers instead of passing it to a wide open player X) and in those two touches he had one dribble drive that set up an easy bucket for AV, and the other time he quickly swung the ball into LeBron in the post who attacked and was fouled. Do you really need me to tell you who player X was?

Please do tell. I can think of only one perimeter player who can play defense on decent 2's. Could it really be him? The same guy who has proven that he can get under perimeter players skin?

I don't mind player X in the role of 4 or 5 minutes a game... That's all we need...

Player X had great defense last night and it was obvious. I hope he can keep it up. That is exactly how I want him to play. Honestly, if he woud just chuck the ball sometimes instead of hesitate, I think it would go in better. He needs to cut to the basket when he doesnt have the ball too, somehow dribbling distracts him. He can be a good finisher sometimes.

I figured it out. X is Xavier McDaniel right???

It was hard for player X to shoot last night when he only touched the ball twice and Walter Szczerbiak refused to pass it to him when he was wide open instead of jacking up contested jumpers. When asked after the game why he didnt pass to a wide open teammate, Wally's response: "Shooter's gotta shoot."

Its a hell of a strategy by Wally though... He knows that he and Sasha are basically competing for the same minutes. Why should he pass it to the guy who if he gets the opportunity to will take his time?

JR Smith is better than Boobie.

:thisguy: Boobie the next Billups? Uh no.

And we are going to need player X vs Utah tomorrow. Mo and Delonte vs D-Will and Ronnie Brewer. That could get ugly real fast.

I think West will do fine against Brewer, he is nothing special imo. But Mo will have his hands full with Williams....

But you are not going to always half good match ups at each position, thats where help defense comes in. I think the bench is gonna be key in this game........
