Which teams are over the cap post 2010 that have expiring contracts next year?So basically we need to figure out a way to get rid of Daniel Gibson.
If we can get his deal off the books then we open up a whole host of possibilities in 2010.
darko sucks. Please don't ever bring up Darko. A decrepit old Ben Wallace is 3x the player Darko is. Get that weak stuff outta here.
If we were able to move boobie to free up cap room then yeah, we could free up some space. But our bench would also be lighter than it already is. It's a tricky give and take.
I think they are planning on re-signing Z arn't they?
probably to a minumum contract so it would hardly effect space.
1.) Cap hold is last contract plus 25%, up to the max deal. So we'd have to renounce his rights to do anything.
2.) If we did renounce his rights and resign him for vet min, vet min is still 1.5 million at that age.
its 1.5 but im pretty sure it only counts towards the cap for around 700k..

Really? Interesting....
Name me a 7 foot jump shooting C with no footspeed or defensive prowess that is going to be 36, that is making more than the vet min - much less multiple millions...If you think a 7'3 guy who can shoot is going to get the vet min you dont know basketball contracts. He will give us a home discount, but aging big men who can shoot still have value. He will get 3 or 4 million a year at that point.
Getting rid of boobie for nothing is a very bad idea. He is on a very friendly contract for what he brings. He had a bad year, but he is still an excellent shooter. Either he learns from the bad year, or MB goes back to using him in his previous limmited role...as a shooter off the bench. I think Boobie will have a good year coming up....8-10 points, over 40% from 3.
As far as getting under the cap....why? We are not getting any big time free agents. We are best served if we use our assets this year, remain over the cap and then have the use of the mle.
There are many free agents next year, the superstars will remain with their current franchise...Yao, Lebron, Dirk, Wade, etc...but then it will get interesting. Rarshard Lewis level players do leave...and get over paid. We will see numurous teams eat up all their cap space to sign players, teams will start panicking. Ferry is known for being patient...he has shown that in the past. After the feeding frenzy, some quality free agents will remain without contracts and with no one with any cap space. There the cavs will sit and have our choice of about 4 or 5 quality players that will have to settle for the mle...who one can only speculate....Travis Outlaw, Amir Johnson, Al Harington, Jamal Crawford....etc... All solid pieces, all we have to fight for the scrap that remains of the free agency money.
If ever their was an off season and wait and get value its 2010. This isnt the most popular among fans, but it is the most prudent. Numerous teams will be handcuffed for years for the bad contracts the do sign. Larry Hughes or Ben Wallace anyone? Those type contracts do not have any value until they become expiring contracts.

Also, the only reason to consider trading boobie is to get max contract value...
if you trade boobie, renounce all free agents, we should have enough to sign a max free agent, whether it be bosh, wade, joe johnson, brandon roy, aldridge.. - while staying competative this year...
Maybe instead of giving sasha we trade them boobie and ben for shaq?
Also, WHO is going to give Z that kind of money, when they must know he wants to stay here..
