2010 Indians Game Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Because MLB baseball draft picks are important. :chuckles:

Name our last draft pick that has had an impact. Do it now.

Well with bozos like Shapiro and that dofus Dolan in charge, what do you expect?

This team needs a new owner, period. I don't care who it is. I'm not saying Dan Gilbert or Marc Cuban, but someone who has the balls to drop loads of cashola on this team. Until that happens, this team will be trash.

And it's a shame. I love the Indians. They are my favorite team in Cleveland. Which is why I went to two games this year, including one in September. I want the 90's back.

I agree with you on all that.

However, that has nothing to do with draft picks "meaning nothing" in MLB. They do. They mean a lot. It's just your team has to learn how to draft good players.

Well you said it yourself. You pretty much lol'ed at the notion that MLB draft picks are instant impact players like in the NFL and NBA.

They aren't instant impact players, but that means for a team like the Indians who can't get good players in FA, draft picks are especially important.

But then where do we go from there? That's maybe 1-3 good players that might fully develop at different times. If you're the Indians, you don't have time to waste on hoping for the future. All of our good players with the exception of Sizemore (lol, good and Sizemore) have come from other teams farm systems. Santana, Choo, LaPorta, etc. We can't make a good pick to save our life.

It also doesn't help matters that when we trade players away, they go on to have All-Star seasons.

Wait, so what are you saying we should do?? lol

Well, the bullpen from what I've seen this second half is pretty damn good. Of course, it's typical for the Indians to be good in the second half, so we'll see next season. What we need is to move Masterson back to the bullpen and pick up one more legit starter. Then, sign a good 3rd basemen for around $5 million. What we have there now is trash, garbage, and puke.

You do that, have a healthy Sizemore and Santana, and a Hafner who hits at least 20 home runs and drives in 150+ RBI's, and I think we have a legit shot at something big.

And give up all our draft picks? Or what?

If you need to trade them away for the pitcher, then yes. There are some good starters out there available for the cheap. As for the 3rd basemen, that can be a FA acquisition. Allocate $5M for him, and boom, you have a nice staff that could compete for the next two years.

Let's put it this way, I would be happy with 1 title then trading everyone away a la the '97 Marlins. I don't need multiple titles to be happy as an Indians fan. Now if I was a Yankees fan, anything less than 11 titles in 10 years would be disappointing. ;)

I wish when those kids were running the bases Sunday and high fiving Choo and LaPorta one of the kids would have kicked Larry Dolan in the nuts and then stomped on them.

When you have a team with this many young guys out there, you take the end-of-season improvement over the 2-3 slots in the draft it costs. If this was a team in say, the Pirates situation, I would be more apt to see a tank. However, this upcoming draft is very deep and sliding back a few slots doesn't preclude the team from a very good player. This also isn't the NBA, where you only have 0-3 guys in each draft with 'superstar' status that would require a team to completely tank to get them to be a championship team. Even the Stephen Strasburg's can smoke their elbows and be out for a year.

And all that said, I would rather see the squad fight down the stretch than quit like the Royals have, too. The improved pitching has definitely been nice to see too, as Carrasco settles in (him getting out of trouble repeatedly was another good sign) and we actually see some guys step up in the pen.
