This has become the norm in the NBA. I love the semi-circle to help with block/charge calls, but the NBA refs have gotten lazy and now no longer pay attention to anything but that circle to determine whether a block or charge should be called. So many times guys are moving their feet after the offensive player gets into his shooting motion and yet they still call a charge simply because the defender is outside of the circle.
Yeah it seems that way... as long as there is actually a legitimate collision. In the Bulls game the Pacers would consistently be outside the circle on Rose drives and Rose would jump sideways, creating a slight bit of contact, and it would be a foul on the Pacers. To me that is a no call. I don't see how it suddenly becomes a block when it would be a charge if only Rose jumped forwards instead of sideways. Is the defender not allowed to stand still if Rose decides he's changing direction?
