2015 NBA Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was in the chatroom most of the night, when I wasn't occupied, but Jalen's rambling and his opinions were making me tune him out totally.

That was a crappy night for us, but mostly because the Heat and Bulls got way better players than they should have gotten given their draft position. If Bosh comes back and Wade stays healthy the Heat look like they could be a threat now (Wade, Bosh, Winslow, Whiteside, Dragic look like a good lineup to me, although they are thin after that except for maybe Deng if they keep him). Winslow is really good, he should have gone in the top 5.

And Bobby Portis should improve the Bulls frontcourt, which was falling apart due to Thibs overusing them.

This is Griffins 1st draft as the GM, can we just see how it plays out then conclude something instead of knee jerk concluding he sucks at drafting too on the night of the draft?

Actually it's second. The Wiggins stuff wasn't an illusion.

Flip Saunders just said after the Kevin Love issue last summer and the draft he had yesterday he felt like Kevin Costner in draft day.

So did he just call Kevin Love Bo Callahan?

The best thing about the draft last night? People on twitter calling Jalen Rose out for being a fucking moron!

Jalen was saying a lot of words... those words just happened to make no sense next to each other. I did love at one point Jay Williams just said "Whoa, stop. Why do you think Love is leaving in the first place?" Followed by Jalen saying something about family (wasn't clear. The words he put together did not fit together) It was like watching a two year old try to solve a jigsaw puzzle.

No team in the east will be a true threat to a healthy cavs team (with love). Sorry.

Also, I'm not 100% sure Dragic even returns to the heat. Why is that a foregone conclusion?

Didnt Griffin want Parker though before he showed up out of shape?

The jury is out on Joe Harris. Things we were so bad in the finals I was hoping Blatt gave him a shot :chuckle::alc:

Forgive me for daring to imply that another team might have picked up a good player. If we're 100% healthy and clicking on all cylinders (which is probably more likely for us than Wade/Bosh being fully healthy) we *should* win but this is the NBA and nothing is guaranteed. Including being 100% healthy.

The Bulls took us to 6 with Kyrie still able to make significant contributions in several games, even though he was not 100%. I like cheerleading as much as anyone but we're not invulnerable. Still have to play the games.

Every draft always brings excitement, especially because the last few years we were drafting guys that could/would change the future of our franchise. This year was different, we weren't in position to snatch a guy like that. Of course we can point to late 1st/2nd round outliers like Tony Parker, Butler, Draymond, Parsons, etc... but they are few and far between. Drafting 24 doesn't guarantee you anything. The writing was on the wall with Griffin's presser. He wants guys who can step in now, 25-29 years old... free agents. Once some of the wings like RHJ/Anderson, or PGs like Grant/Wright were gone I wasn't expecting to keep the pick. So I get what they did. Stash a Euro, draft two 2nd rounders that will likely be D-league guys and hope they can contribute down the road. Keep the roster spots open for FA's. If we bring back the top 12... that leaves 3 roster spots.

PG - Kyrie /FA #1/ Delly
SG - Shump/JR/Harris
SF - LeBron/FA #2/Jones/Miller
PF- Love/TT/Andy
C- Moz

Maybe Christmas makes our 5th big, or they find someone else.

I don't know enough about the 3 guys we drafted to give some accurate, insightful information. But I can tell you I was hoping we selected Dakari in the 2nd round. Would he fit the role of instant contributor like Griffin is looking for, no... but I did like what I saw from him. 19 years old, 7 ft, 260 lbs, 9'4” standing reach. Played about 15 mpg, avg around 6 pts 5 rebounds playing in a platoon system behind WCS (#6 overall) Towns (#1 overall) Lyles (#12 overall) etc... and Julius Randle the year before. Good offensive rebounder. 15.7 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per 40 minutes pace adjusted.

I think he can be a great pick for a team in the 2nd round. Would have loved to have him as a developmental big to learn from Moz, Andy, etc... I think OKC had a great draft. Obviously a team that is already a contender while healthy, I think Payne behind Westbrook is a good fit for a Reggie Jackson role and I already expressed my views on Dakari. They did a good job IMO.

The bulls were a legitimate threat in the East to the cavs, especially after Love went down. I think we knew that all year. Somehow a Heat team that couldn't make the playoffs in the east is now a threat to win the east, because of a rookie who hasn't even had a NBA practice? LOL, ok. Granted, I get Bosh didn't play the rest of the year, but they still had wade/whiteside/dragic/deng and still couldn't beat out Brooklyn, Boston, and Indiana (without PG 95% of the year). That is truly pathetic. I am glad the heat think they are going all in right now, because it is going to come back to bite them in the ass and make their collapse even more enjoyable.

Now that we have seen what Griff can do with non-guaranteed contracts, it would not surprise me if he trades 24 to Minny's 31 and 36 or our 24 and 53rd to Philly for all 5 of their 2nds just to have a lot of non-guaranteed money and picks that might pan out. I think he would rather have more experience than rooks.

Just had to look back and see what I wrote on April 19th. I love how Philly actually used ALL of their picks.

As others have asked, how the hell does Woj get the picks so far in advance? It's irritating.

I wonder if our next trade will happen now or later.
Was stated awhile ago in an article about him, he has certain sources who feed him the info before the commish gets to the podium. Joe Dumars when he was GM of the Pistons was it for awhile. Not sure exactly who the source is now. Just look at it this way- who does Woj glow about in articles? Those are his sources.

Also, why do folks really care if they do d out a minute or two early who a draft pick is? I just checked this morning on the draft. I found out every pick and trade in 5 minutes.
