2016-2017 Around The NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's a good move for Atlanta.

I don't get it. Are the Hawks trying to contend, or rebuild? They got rid of Korver, thought about getting rid of Millsap, and now they trade for Ilyasova?

I'm terrified of the Celtics getting PG13 or Butler.

Like, I just literally soiled my trousers. That would DEFINITELY make them the team to beat.

Only way the Celtics scare me this deadline is if they add both Butler and PG13. Even then TT and Love have shown what they think about Horford.

What the hell?

Here's Boston's starting lineup with PG/Butler contrasted to Cleveland's:

Kyrie / IT
JR / Bradley/Smart
LeBron / PG/Butler
Kevin / Horford
TT / Johnson

I see zero Boston advantages.

If the Celtics somehow acquire George while keeping most of their core intact, watch out...
Celtics are too busy overvaluing every single asset they have to ever get serious about a trade

Also with or without PG13 they are zero threat. It would go from a pretty easy sweep to a 6 game series so it would be more difficult but short of an LBJ injury Boston stands no shot

I'd say that the only real advantage we have there is TT over Johnson. Everything else is a push.

Looking at that potential Celtics line-up, I just soiled myself AGAIN.

Lots of homerism in this thread.

I don't think the Celtics make any major moves, but come on; if they landed Butler AND George we'd get our asses kicked.

We just came back from down 3-1 to the best team in regular season NBA history in the finals but if the Boston Fucking Celtics led by 4'3" Isaiah Thomas who couldn't guard Kay Felder end up landing either of the guys that LeBron has already knocked out of the playoffs with similarly good supporting casts then we would get our asses kicked?

Thinking that we would get our asses kicked by a team who's third best player is Al Horford... I mean that's just... that's a take

What we accomplished last year has zero bearing on this year. Zero.

This year we ran LeBron's minutes through the roof because we didn't feel that the services of a backup PG were needed. This season our starting shooting guard broke his thumb and won't return until weeks before the playoffs begin. This season our starting power forward underwent surgery and won't return until weeks before the playoffs begin.

We're vulnerable. I've said since before the season started that Boston is nothing but a hype machine by the media but Jimmy Butler and Paul George legitimize them as a powerhouse.

But jmoney you said we'd get our asses kicked. I just can't buy that after years and years of the East throwing their best at LeBron the final winning combination that actually knocks him off is quite arguably the worst defender in the NBA (albeit an extremely talented offensive player), quite arguably the single softest center in the NBA who Tristan has emasculated twice now in the playoffs, and another top 10 player.

Especially having to integrate a huge usage piece over the course of less than 30 games.

I could see it going 6. LeBron is still by far and away the best player in the series and for my money Kyrie is the second best. Now I'm willing to concede that many have Butler/George ranked higher than Kyrie so fine here's how the rankings look IMO

1. LBJ
2. George/Butler
3. Kyrie
4. Love
5. Thomas
6. TT

We still have 3 of the top 4 and 4 of the top 6 in the series. I anticipate someone wanting to rank Thomas higher than I have, but his defensive deficiencies will be exploited at will in any playoff series. Kyrie has the ability to play good defense he just preserves it. IT has never shown he can play good defense, or even anything but grossly offensive defense. Also in the playoffs I'd be interested to see if his insane free throw rate keeps pace. I'd guess not

I have a hard time seeing an argument for the Celtics winning that series. I don't believe an argument exists for us getting our asses kicked by that team

Now if the Wizards were able to land Paul George THAT would have me on notice. Still won't pick against LBJ in the East ever, but that would make it a fair series IMO

Honestly, that's the best argument I think can be made.

Butler guards LeBron better than anybody else in the league not named Leonard. He can't stop him but he can also make things extremely tough on him. George meanwhile is one of the few guys who can give LeBron's scoring right back to him (on a good night.)

You add the possibility of Boston getting the 1st seed and the likelihood that JR and Love will not be 100% come playoff time, yeah...not sure I like our odds there.

Look no two teams have ever met 3x in a row in the Finals. Everybody here wants to pencil us in and entertain the notion that San Antonio will larynx-punch GS. Our defense is swimming in the doldrums of the league, LeBron has fatigued himself one too many occasions and our health is pitiful at the moment. People should prepare for the very realistic chance that we won't be up to snuff in the playoffs and a loaded Celtics team could take advantage of it.
