Around 2.5 secs was left on the clock with the Raptors inbounding.
Patterson inbounded the ball to Ross and with around 0.5 seconds left on the clock, Terrence Ross shot a very deep 3 and made it.
But then the refs went to check the replay and saw that after Patterson inbounded the ball, Boogie got a touch to it. The timer didn't start right then and started after few milli-seconds. I think it would have been slightly over 0.5 seconds late after which they started the clock. So, they didn't count the basket.
As for Collison, doubt Kings give him away. He is their first choice PG. And like you mentioned is on a great contract!
Its a peculiar situation, and the problem is that the rule is not consistent.
There were 27.3 sec in a possession that ended in a 24 sec violation. Yet the Raps were given 2.5 sec.
Boogie's tip was almost certainly a violation.
The official indicates when the scorekeeper should start the clock and did so incorrectly (after the tip). The official drops his arm when the clock should start.
Ross likely doesn't get the shot off if the whole thing is handled properly but what a precedent to set. What if there are 6 seconds left and a player waits to shoot until there is .5 seconds left, makes the shot and the official looks and sees the clock started late and disallows the basket. What about at 10 secs? Where do you draw the line? Why correct that and nothing else?
