2016 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So, the final trade:

Indians get Coco Crisp

A's get Colt Hynes

We just landed a useful MLB player for a 31 year old minor league pitcher we signed 4 weeks ago...
Crisp cleared waivers before we traded for him, yes?

So we aren't on the hook for what is/was his outrageous salary?

I like the Coco addition, but I hope they still give Yandy Diaz a shot and just use Coco as insurance if he proves he's not ready.

Sounds like we received cash in the trade. He's only owed 2 million at this point in the season as well, so his salary isn't outrageous.

I also don't think he's going to hit his numbers required for his vesting season to trigger (550 plate appearances or 130 games played) so this is pretty much a 1 month deal.

Big thing people should take away from this, especially after the Lucroy ordeal...Coco had 10 and 5 rights (ten year vet, 5 consecutive years on the same team) and had a full no trade clause. He waived it to come back to Cleveland.

Crisp has a 14 million dollar option that vests if he appears in 21 more games or makes about 100 more plate appearances. What the As did was avoid a grievance. Now let's see how Dolan handles Coco's playing time, especially if he gets hot being back in a playoff race.

Its 28 games and 116 plate appearances...even if he was given a starters role, he wouldn't hit those figures, because it was the As who made sure his vesting option wouldn't trigger...

And I literally just said that a post above yours...

Indians have 31 more games, and he could hit 550 plate appearances in as few as 22 games. He could certainly hit those numbers if he gets hot. He only misses them if the Tribe uses him I the same way that the As did. And here was Coco's view of how he was used:

Veteran Athletics outfielder Coco Crispsays that he believes the team is artificially holding down his playing time to prevent his option from vesting, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Crisp says that he’s “extremely hurt” by the team’s “shady” handling of the situation. While GM David Forst and manager Bob Melvin have stated that Crisp is sitting against lefties to afford younger players more exposure, he sees more to it — particularly since he is not being used much off the bench.

He was dealt here because Oakland wanted to avoid the situation. Nice move for the Tribe, I not debating that, but this is why he is coming cheap. Let's see if he expects the Indians to 'play fair' like he did Oakland or if he lightens up and accepts the projected role.

If you think Coco Crisp is going to play over the majority of our OFs down the stretch...well, I don't know what to say about that...cause he won't, it wouldn't make sense.

He's good insurance for when Almonte becomes ineligible, but he's going to be chilling on the bench the majority of September. Him and Almonte will probably go every other game vs LHP.

He's not going to hit his vesting option...he's not...and we can thank the As for holding him out of games and making him a more attractive option to contenders who don't want his contract next season to vest.
