2017-18 Cleveland Indians Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Screw that...

If Miami's new ownership really is trying to purge all the long term deals given out by the previous regime, I'm doing everything in my power to try to land Christian Yelich from that team.
That's a pretty friendly contract. I don't see why they would trade him without getting a bunch in return that would make us a worse team.

The conversation starts with Tristan McKenzie. That to me is too much. If it was other pieces then we will talk (they can take our Beiber).

How about they can have old beat up Kip and Smooth, I'll even throw in Lindor's rookie card.

I think you start with Shane Beiber. Brady Aiken and YCC. Then go from there.

I don't have a subscription to the Athletic... What was said that gives you that indication?

Below is just one quote from the story. I think he's happy with the staff, his teammates (all the things that really matter), but it cannot be easy playing for a team where "all the fans hate him". Which isn't entirely true, but the only thing that matters in this case is his perception.

ZM: So, is there anything positive or rewarding about social media for you?

BS: No. Have you looked at my Twitter? I get rewarded for nothing. They hate me. Cleveland fans hate me.

Seems like there's virtually no chance payroll goes down/stays the same in 2018 unless they unload guys.

According to Spotrac, they have about 73M tied up in 12 guaranteed contracts already. Plus at least 8 pre-arbitration guys on the 25-man next year making roughly 575K each, which puts them at about 77-78M

Picking up Brantley and Tomlin's options and declining Logan's is another 16M. If they keep all seven of the arbitration guys, that's another projected 34M.

So before you even get to the free agents, they already having about 127-128M in committed salary. If they keep Santana and Smith, you're talking right around 150M.

2017 payroll was 139M.

Yep. Might have the best contract in baseball.

There's a couple of bats I have my eyes on: Miami's duo of Yelich and Ozuna, Khris Davis, Brandon Belt and Jose Abreu. All are available to varying degrees.....

McKenzie and Bieber aren't going anywhere except to their minor league assignments for the Indians. Bieber may even crack the MLB roster sometime this season from the bullpen.

Callaway is the most important coach we have on this team, after Francona. The Indians should match whatever offers he gets just to remain our pitching coach, and I’m not kidding.

As much as it will suck, I trust Tito to knock his pitching coach choice out of the park.

Dave Wallace, John Farrell, and Mickey Callaway have been his pitching coaches 13 of the last 14 years he's managed. No one I'd trust more to identify what a good pitching coach looks like than Tito...and one of those guys could be that guy, believe it or not.

MLB has officially set the qualifying offer at $17.4M

Mickey deserves a managerial gig, and it's just a matter of time. Wouldn't mind Farrell at all, I think he got the short end of the stick in Boston anyway.

Can we get Kipnis the hell out of Cleveland?

Lots of good info here, thanks for the write ups.

My want is simple, get rid of Kipnis.
