2017-2018 Around the NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
LOL at the idea that we are choosing between getting PGIII and Cousins. If only we had a shot at either!

Both NO and OKC are gunning for the playoffs and will give it till past the trade deadline to see what they can do with their current lineups IMO.

I think you're right about New Orleans but I'm slowly starting to wonder about OKC, honestly. They are looking completely rudderless right now and massively underperforming damn near every night at this point. Presti is pragmatic about these things, he has to realize that the season is slipping away from them. His first choice would obviously be to move 'Melo but at this point that has to be pretty close to impossible, without taking on a bunch of bullshit. Russ has just signed a monster contract and it will most likely be tough to get proper value for him. That leaves George with half a season left on his contract and no incentive to stay past this season, which severely hurts the market value for him. If the Thunder continue to look this dysfunctional I do think there's a chance the Cavs could snag him up for the Nets pick and a player or two.

Side note: The Bulls have won 3 in a row.

They've recently gotten Kris Dunn and Mirotic back in the lineup, neither of whom played in the first 20 or so games. LaVine comes back in another month or so.

I don't think it's far fetched at all to suggest they are a team that could eventually pass Brooklyn up, as they have infused talent into their rotation that wasn't there while they earned their 3-20 start.

The key teams are Memphis, LAC, and Orlando. Do MEM and LAC get healthy and start winning at a .500 clip. Is Orlando completely horrible or do thy recapture some of what they had going on early in the season?

All the other teams are the ones we expected to be bad and they'll dance around each other in the tank standings all year long.

Watching NO is frustrating. Hovering at .500. Need them to drop 10 in a row and have Cousins become disgruntled.

But, as it is, OKC is in trouble and unless Melo completely changes his personality I don't think they will pull out of the nose-dive. I think PG13 becomes available by Jan. 15.

Add a guy like Dieng on the cheap, or maybe also add DJ if any assets are left and boom: Warrior killers.

Why are people so amped up about wanting to get an obvious bully and malcontent? What he did to Durant was flat-out bullying- if he was a tough guy, why didn't he go to the locker room after Zach Randolph put him in his place? If the goal is a dickhead, just trade for Zeke, at least he walks the same walk with everyone.

Thunder are so bad right now I wouldn't be surprised if they considered a Melo for TT trade.

Would we do it?
Would Melo buy in?
Would Lue trust Zizic as a backup big?

The Cavs already turned this down when the Knicks tried to do it.

Why would we want to add an overweight, unmotivated Melo, that adds nothing to our team. At-least TT is an elite rebounder and can play defense. With how Melo looks I don't see anyone giving up an asset to pay him 27m next year.

I’m sure they’d consider it. The Cavs wouldn’t.

Would we do it?
I hope not. We wouldn’t even do it when there was still a glimmer of hope Melo would change his game to Olympic Melo when playing next to superior players.

Would Melo buy in?
Heard the Cavs have one of the best postgame food spreads in the league. Melo would be all over that. And he’ll buy in as long as he can take 10-15 contested turnaround 18 footers a game without having to pass or defend.

Would Lue trust Zizic as a backup big?
Not sure Zizic should be trusted at the moment. I think it’s unfair to ask that of him this year. Gigantic adjustment for him, new country, new league, New organization. He needs to focus on strength and conditioning, watching film, and getting used to NBA speed in practice. He’ll be a good player in this league but he’s extremely young and needs to be developed with care. The Cavs had a multi-year plan with Cedi and it has paid off, they’re developing something similar for Ante.

Melo looks terrible this year. Not just his style of play but physically he looks slow, lacking elevation when he goes to the rim, heavy.

Having said that if Westbrook gets a brain transplant they could still be a solid team. Adams has been their best player this year, speaks volumes about their big 3.

Their off-ball movement(or lack thereof) is probably the worst I've ever seen.

Whenever Russ isn't running PnR or initiating, dude isn't even part of the play. Doesnt even make himself an option to pass it to. Instantly 4 on 5. Melo isn't much better but at least stands near the 3 pt line. George tries to do some cutting but Russ' vision isn't honestly that great so unless it's an obvious read it's not like he's dropping dimes like Bron/Nash/Harden/Paul.

They'd probably improve a lot if Russ just did what he did last year, Paul George played like a rich mans Trevor Ariza, and Melo just 100% stopped taking contested 2's and only took catch&shoot 3's and attacked the rim on closeouts. It would be better than whatever garbage they "run" now.

Jimmy Butler is a baaaaaddd man.
