2017-2018 Around the NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When Gerald Green is playable in the playoffs, then come talk to me.

The JR Smith you're seeing right now isn't either. Put him a team that doesn't have incredible talent to carry him and they aren't playing him.

LIke, stick him on Minnesota or Boston and he's not getting minutes in the playoffs.

Now, Gerald Green just gave everything back on the other end. He was lost every possession down the court and was shying away from defensive rebounds.

We saw JR play poorly in the regular season last year, then show up, knock down shots and play solid defense the whole postseason.

Maybe that JR is gone, but I'll acknowledge it when it doesn't show up in April/May/June.

Gotta say GS is so dang good...it's going to be so tough for anyone to beat them...they aren't even playing with Durant...sure as heck Houston isn't going too even with Harden....they are like the Washington of the West...always fold in the end

For what it's worth, I'd rather play Gerald Green than J.R. Smith in the playoffs right now. Green still has his athleticism and has made more three pointers in the last two games than Smith has made in his last eleven.

They both suck at defense and they both make a ton of low IQ plays, so I'll take the guy making shots that is still above league average athletically.

Paul George when guarded by JR:
G1: 2-8
G2: 2-3
G3: 2-7
G4: 4-9

DeMar DeRozan when guarded by JR:
G1: 1-7
G2: 0-4
G3: 2-5
G4: 2-3

That was last season. If I had access to all of our games this season and the time/means to make a JR Smith defensive blooper reel, it'd probably be over twenty minutes long and we're barely in January.

He's made a noticeable regression on defense from last season. We have new acquisitions (Wade, Crowder, Green, and hell, even Osman) who are playing far better defense than him this year and aren't turning the ball over every three seconds and bricking open threes.

J.R. Smith turnover rate:
'15-'16: 6.3%
'16-'17: 6.7%
'17-'18: 11.5%

His shooting has come back just a tad from last season, but his defense has regressed to the point where if he's not absolutely lighting it up from deep, then he has no business seeing court time on this team as currently constructed. He's a complete net-negative at this point.

Better chance than we have.

I still don't understand your faith in these fuckin' guys. They're a well-constructed team but Harden has done jack shit to earn yours or anybody else's confidence and the odds of Paul being injured by the time such a hypothetical series rolls around are 50/50 in his favor at best.

Let's see Harden not set a playoff turnover reocrd or get blocked by a centenarian en route to an ignominious, Kawhi-less Spurs 50-point at-home domination before crowning his team as the favorites to take down the Durant Warriors.

Westbrook is zooming back into the MVP discussion.

Odds are no one beats them. But there's one contender with the ability to force Curry to guard a future hall of fame every time down the court and its Houston. No one else can attack him like they can.

I agree with that.

How much does that count for though when you're as historically impotent in the playoffs as Harden? And I don't buy the "too much pressure on him as the sole threat" BS, the guy is just a mental midget and he's proved it time after time.

I would have zero faith in my team if James Harden was leading it until proven otherwise. And that's not even getting into Paul and D'Antonio's almost-mythic inability to get it done in the playoffs. Combined they're like the 3 magi of playoff basketball anathema. I don't see it.

The Cavs have a lot of work to do. A LOT. I could certainly never be construed as a horn-tooting optimist around here. But LeBron alone gives me greater assurance than the Rockets.

DeAndre Jordan - 26 points , 17 rebounds / Lou Williams - 26 points , 10 assists

Could really do with some of those rebounds from DJ!
