Any thoughts on Silver's latest stab at conference/playoff reform?

We have a Churchillian "worst system in the world" right now IMHO, in that most of the solutions I've heard are terrible, but I don't have a problem with making the Central, NW and SW divisions "swing divisions" that can send teams to either side of the playoffs.

System is fine as is. No reason to change it.

Well, the devil's advocate argument is that of course we're going to say that because we're in the East.

But I think you have to go back to us getting swept in '07 and the the Nets getting swept in '02 to find teams that were clearly out-of-their-depth compared to a more "deserving" 2nd place West team in the Finals. You could also argue that there were more "deserving" ECF finals teams some years by how they played against an East champ,.

I use quotation marks because, as the saying goes, I'm not sure if "deserve should have anything to do with it" when it's about a best team winning, rather than who the runner-up is, just as changing the bottom end of the 16 teams around the margins tells us nothing about the best teams, and because inter-regional Finals rivalries like LAL-BOS and, yes, CLE-GSW have come to mean things.

I have a problem with making too many across-the-country trips in the first or even second round.
