2017-2018 Around the NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Brandon Ingram is going to be GOOD

What do you know? Midget Man scores 29 and Wade scores 25. It’s like Turn Back the Fucking Clock Night, for former Cavs, in Miami...

If Golden State didn't have KD, the West playoffs this year would be NUTS.

Alas, it feels like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

The 2013 draft was supposed to be awful but now it looks pretty good. Oladipo, McCollum, Giannis, Adams, Porter, Gobert, Schroeder. That's one all-NBA player, two of the best big men in the league, and three guys who look like all-star caliber players even if Porter and McCollum haven't been picked yet.

The 2014 draft was supposed to be historically great but now looks kind of meh. A lot of pretty good starters but the only all-NBA caliber player is Embiid and then it's hard to figure out who the all-stars would be (Wiggins? Clint Capela? Will Jabari Parker ever come back to be good? Will Zach Lavine or Aaron Gordon break out?).

And in both drafts you have a lot of busts in the top ten and many of the best players aren't picked till 11-20. In fact overall you could argue the picks after 10 are better than the top 10 picks in those two drafts.

Kind of a lesson in how you can't judge the quality of a draft class until years later, and how hard it is to make good picks in the moment. And also a lesson for those who think our pick this year is automatically going to deliver an eventual all-star.

Solid analysis.

But despite all that, Anthony Bennett was the worst idea in the history of ideas...

have to show a skill at scouting we've never shown before though.

I don't think the modern Cavs have ever hit a home run with a non-#1 pick, unless you count Cedi, and it's way too early to call him that. Maybe he's a single or a double.

What are the “Modern Cavs”? Since 2000? Since 2010? What was the last non-#1 home run? Boozer? Z? Andre Miller? Ron Harper?

Philly is starting to string together a nice run, and they're gonna get the Lakers pick this year.

I still think, if the Cavs flame out, they're a legit option for LeBron if winning titles is goal 1.

I think he goes there. I hope I am wrong.

But Philly is the best place for him if he wants to win championships like you said and also become the No 1 scorer in NBA History. Playing alongside another elite passer in Simmons would help him score a lot of easy buckets and also extend his career/peak. Similar to how Kareem was able to do with Magic.
