God, I just watched the preview and realized again why I don’t watch ESPN.

Their argument in favor of why the Yankees would win was that:

Kellerman: The Yankees have a great bullpen. Should go to it early and often. Literally didn’t say a word about the Indians.

Stephen A: Slobbered all over the Yankees and how excited he is about how young they are and that they’re good again. Nothing about the Indians.

It will be a much longer time in between times I’ve watched ESPN this time around and it’s probably been years. What a terrible fucking network.
I guarantee neither of those hacks have watched a regular season baseball game in at least ten years. A fetus has as much baseball knowledge as them.

Severino threw 29 pitches. You don't think he goes on Friday?

No, because that disregards all the throwing he did leading up to starting that game. Sure, he threw 29 pitches, in the game, but I bet he threw 100+ with all he did prior to it.

Also, after seeing how poorly he reacted to the adrenaline and atmosphere of the post season, I bet they protect him from having to start on the road.

I hope they throw him out there.

The days of rest isn't as much about arm fatigue from the games they pitch, it's about staying in their routines.

They need their day of rest, and then the days to build that strength back up. Even though Severino only threw those 29 pitches, he went through his normal routine leading up to it.

Series goes 4, at max. Think we leave Cleveland up 2-0.

Bauer matches up very well against them this year, and Kluber has always owned them.

Expecting Gray and Tanaka to go in games 1 and 2, in some order.

But a team who Ks a lot and relies on drawing a bunch of walks to put together multiple run innings isn't going to scare me when the team I root for walked the fewest batters in baseball this year, and just set an MLB record for Ks as a pitching staff.

There is this little nugget.

We also split the first series with the Yankees and won the last 3. So we are 5 - 2 vs them this year.
by contrast the Yankees were 5 - 2 vs the Twins.

The Yankees have a great pen, right there with our's for the best in the league, that bodes well for them in the playoffs.

However, as it has been mentioned before. They have a lot of swing and miss guys in their lineup while we have a very patient lineup.

In the playoffs, small sample size reigns supreme. There's not enough time for streaks to balance out, but one thing that can remain consistent is a good approach at the plate. Drawing walks, and working counts is something the hitters can control. The reverse holds true for pitchers.

Drawing walks, and limiting walks are two huge things that helps teams consistently win games in the playoffs, and those are two things the Indians do very well.

Yankees hitters have the 13th highest K%, and are tied for 3rd in BB%

Indians hitters have the 29th highest K%, and are tied for 3rd in BB%

Yankees pitchers are 3rd in K/9, and 10th in BB/9

Indians pitchers are 1st in K/9, and 1st in BB/9

Be able to draw walks while simultaneously avoiding K's is a big time advantage for the Indians. The Indians are the only team that top 5 in BB% and K% for hitters. The Red Sox are the only other team that's top 10 in both.

Several talking heads on satellite sports radio this AM commenting on how Francona "blowing it" by pitching Bauer game 1. As if this is a wild card do or die game and not a series... Sorry, don't buy that IF we end up losing the series, it will have been because Bauer pitched game 1.

Anyway, if I keep flipping the middle finger at my car radio and yelling, someone on the road will think I'm raging at them and retaliate lol

Yup. Why I said Bauer matches up well with them.

If you watched the game last night, they did all of their damage on pitches low and out over the plate.

When did Bauer’s season turn around? When he started throwing a bunch of high fastballs, using his curve to work off that, and threw his 2-seamer in on lefties.

I actually would have had a lot less confidence in Bauer game 1 if the Twins had won, because their power hitters tend to do most of their damage on fastballs above the belt.

Bauer also learned to throw a slider. That was when his season changed when he threw the slider and curve low. He also said during the 22 game streak that the science in pitching says not enough pitchers throw high and that the high strikes are harder to hit.

Had a funny exchange, bandwagon Yankees fan told me Yanks 4-0 sweep.

Bruh, they only play 5 if need be.

They definitely are harder to hit, cause the game shifted due to changes in the strike zone.

When the letter high fastball no longer became a strike, the knee high fastball became the go to attack point for pitchers.

When I was going through pitching lessons when I was younger it was always attack down, miss down, don’t miss up.

So what did the hitters start to do? Sit down, look down, lay off high. So modern day swings are best equipped to hit low pitches.

So what will pitchers start to do? Attack up, cause most can’t hit up, cause they weren’t taught to hit up, or their swing mechanics will never let them hit pitches up, like we saw with Naquin.
