2017 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm doing one of those "What if I ran the Browns this offseason" posts. You are going to read it.

Trade - Jimmy Garoppolo for this year's #33 and #97 picks. Belichick wants to win now, so the Browns fork over two nice picks this year. Upside is the Browns have their best QB in a generation who works the middle of the field.

Philly C/G Stefen Wisniewski for the New England 5th round pick. 28 years old and being shopped, this would solidify the center position with a player in his prime. The Browns have the money to absorb his salary.

Free Agency -
Resign: Terrelle Pryor, Jordan Poyer, and Britton Colquitt. Let Paea and Pasztor sign elsewhere.

Sign:

26 year old SS TJ McDonald from the Rams. Immediate starter who follows Gregg Williams and the biggest contract offer. Nice in the box safety who hits hard.

27 year old slot receiver Adam Thielen from the Vikings. Get ready for @BimboColesHair to hate me for a week, because this guy would do some real damage with Garoppolo. He's an emerging slot receiver who is a restricted free agent, so prepare for an overpay.

Draft -

#1 DE Myles Garrett Texas A&M - Edge rusher who becomes the best player on the defensive side immediately.

#12 FS Malik Hooker Ohio State University - His injury couldn't come at a better time, as the free safety slides to the Browns second selection. Both safety positions are upgraded, fixing the biggest defensive problem with the franchise in 2016. He should easily beat out Poyer.

#52 CB Adoree Jackson USC - I'll be happy with the best cornerback on the board here, and many believe this cover corner will be there. He has some issues with deep routes against bigger receivers, but he is as good as any corner drafted last year.

#65 RB Joe Mixon Oklahoma - He hit a woman a few years ago and I really can't care enough to avoid drafting him. He is a three down running back, catches the ball well, and has starting level explosion. Maybe he can hang out with Liggins.

4th round comp. pick TE Micheal Roberts University of Toledo - Perhaps the best blocking tight end in the draft with deceptive receiving potential, won't be rattled by Northeast Ohio weather. He's an immediate upgrade from Randall Telfer.

Own 5th rounder CB Kevin King University of Washington - A 6'3 corner who runs a 4.5 40 yard dash, the second half of a very productive duo last year for the Huskies. Match him up on bigger receivers as a nickel back.

5th round comp. pick OT Julie'n Davenport Bucknell - One thing I've noticed about our front office is they love Ivy Leaguers. This offensive lineman is said to have long-term upside of a left tackle, and gets to learn behind the best.

6th rounder LB Hardy Nickerson University of Illinois - I liked his play for Cal, then transferred to Illinois because his dad was hired to the staff. He's got the body and the speed, but doesn't really make big plays. Seems like a special teamer with upside.

Much much much would rather go 2 Toledo players in a row and take Kareem Hunt instead of Mixon.

Yes, Mixon has the skills. But once a headcase, 89.54% of the time, he is going to do something stupid again. Dude has the physical traits and can catch the ball well (we have PoopDick), but his off the field issues are a concern. I think especially with Hue here.

Hunt has never eclipsed 100 receiving yards in his first 3 years, and had over 400 his senior year. He is turning into an all-around back. He has fumbled the ball ONE TIME in his college career on over 850+ carries. And that fumble? He recovered it. Talk about a no butterfingers type of player right there.

His physical traits may shy some away, being small, and weighing in ~20lbs lighter than his listed weight at the Senior Bowl. But what are professional NFL weight lifting trainers for?

As I have said before, I think Crow/Dukey are a fine 1-2 punch if we can get our QB and another outside threat (TE/WR), but I also think we should take a RB in the middle. And I would personally take Hunt.

But I like your moves. I mentioned McDonald in an earlier post that has ties we should sign. Didn't even think of Thielen. King is gonna slip to the 5th?? Wasn't he going in like the 3rd earlier? (EDIT: I see you mentioned him in the above post about picking him up in 3rd. That is why I don't think he slips to 5th)

Good job Keychain.

Yeah, I like Hunt but his size is limiting. He is more of a Tevin Coleman type back. I think he will have a useful role on an NFL team, but I'd like to see the Browns get somebody for first and second down as well as the red zone. Crow checks in at 225 pounds, and he can get yards after contact. The problem with Crow is that his vision isn't great, he doesn't make the right cuts consistently, and the Browns only have a flyweight as his backup.

RB is a position though you can get in about any round, and that is kind of proven, and they so like who they have as well. Looking at team needs and whatnot from various sources, I am looking at round 3 and 4 you will see a lot of the runningbacks go since it isnt a high priority by a lot of teams this offseason. I mean i see 5 teams at most may want a RB and honestly their is maybe one team that wants a starter, the rest are going to be backups. There will be RBs available in the fourth round and thats probably were we will draft one if we do, and it may be a high probability since they will be the best players on the board in that round. Just using that list as a quick reference, there will be a lot of guys available that should be a solid player for us. This is a solid class where teams arent going after RBs so we should be able to upgrade the position on day 3.

Unfortunately, you're not looking to just get ANY running back.

You want to get the one you desire most and feel presents a good value.

There will be all positions available in the fourth round, and the argument of "you can get that in any round" holds true for any position on the field.

So your point is somewhat nonsensical. If the Browns find value in round 2 or 3 at the running back position, that's the goal.

Yeah I know they will go for a RB if its the best player on the board, but in this draft good RBs are going to fall onto day three and be the best player available at that time. I dont see them drafting RB in rounds 1 or 2 since we have needs that will be the best player available, so they always will come first. They will likely have certain targets on day 3, like QB and RB, but not before unless one falls really far like a Cook for whatever reason is available at 33 etc. They aren't going to draft a RB early this season plain and simple, since there is players ranked just as high as them available. Like at 12 if 1A is a RB and 1B is a CB then the CB will be drafted. Now if it is a difference of the 1 being a RB then the next on the board is like 4 CB then yeah we will draft the RB and I am okay with that. I was just responding to the people who are talking about RBs specifically not all positions. Rounds 1 and 2 we will address needs (unless its not worth getting a need player there or an extremely high rated player is still available that is a lot higher than a need)

In this draft there will be round 2 graded RBs available in likely the fourth round, so that will be a value pick. Some other positions like in the OLine will not be available like that since this class isnt as deep, so they will likely be picked earlier than projected. At least that is what it looks like right now. That was my point lol

Many of these sentences don't really make much sense, to be honest.

You're in no position to decide what positional needs the Browns value over another, and have presented no evidence to suggest why they'd value position X over Y. Stating it so matter of factly is a waste of everyone's time and adds nothing to the discussion.

You're talking about "round 2 graded" players as though grades are consistent from team to team, this is nonsensical.

If the Browns have a certain value on a RB and can acquire the one they prefer, they'll likely do it.

Adam Thielen, from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, by way of Minnesota State Mankato, married to a girl from Minnesota, who just had a child in Minnesota, is not leaving Minnesota.

You guys can have Charles Johnson back though...

Oh, if I'm Sassy Brown I call Theilen day one of free agency. I talk to him about #1 receiver money that Minnesota can't afford to give him. I offer him a tremendous amount of guaranteed money in year one, which is how Belichick got Chris Hogan to leave Buffalo as a RFA in 2016. I remind Theilen that in Cleveland, he wouldn't be treated like an afterthought like he was in week 17, only targeted once when he was on the doorstep of a 1,000 yard season.

If I'm Sassy Brown, I make Minnesota pay Theilen like he's the most important weapon on the team.

If they have a RB and CB ranked the same they will draft the CB plain and simple since that is a position of need while RB isnt. Now if the RB was ranked higher than the CB then they would go with the RB. That is all I said.

Also everyone here agrees that the defense is the biggest need of this team especially the secondary. All the analysts and anyone who knows football knows they need to upgrade their secondary hence why we are mostly mentioned at 12 with a CB. Like let's say Cook and whoever their #1 CB is available, they are drafting that #1 CB since they are ending up like the same value on their charts.

I know every team has a different board, so I am going by they analysts board that I can get ahold of, and it says there will be RBs graded as possible round 2 guys being drafted in the 3rd and 4th rounds since it's a deeper class and there isn't a huge need for RBs. So I am just projecting that if we go with a RB it will be in the fourth round since day three we are going the best player on the board regardless of position and that position will most likely be the best available.

Shoot, some days, some guys on here treat people like they are completely ignorant and pick apart any little thing they say. I am just stating my opinion is all and how I go about looking at things.

Yeah, good luck with that.

Hey, I'm sure Theilen and his family are thinking it would be great to stay in Minnesota for his whole career. This is still a business, a multi-billion dollar business. I don't know about you, but the wife and I talk about scenarios where we leave the Bay Area for financial opportunities a few times a year. Browns have 105 million to throw around, Theilen would be a great fit.

We will leave it at this:. Your boys lucked out having such a good receiver fall into their laps as a local undrafted free agent.

Not luck...good scouting coupled in with a good WRs coach at developing young guys, albeit who unfortunately just left. Same reason Stefon Diggs doesn't look like a 5th round pick, same reason Jarius Wright has panned out well for a mid round pick, same reason why Thielen became one of the better route runners in the league after going undrafted.

Also, in order to go to the Browns, he first has to talk to the Browns...

Everything from the player, to the Vikings themselves say they want a return. Usually when both parties are on that same page, the player doesn't leave...same kind of deal you guys are having with Pryor right now too, I believe. He wants to be in Cleveland, Cleveland wants him, something will probably get done with him relatively soon.

But again, good luck with that.
