2017 Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm probably in the minority, but I just don't particularly want Cousins at 25M+ a year + what it would assuredly cost in draft pick compensation.

He's good, better than what we have, but I'm just not into that idea.

Why not? Given how difficult it's been to find a QB for this franchise, it'd be hard to justify passing on him (unless he's not committed to being here long-term like he's said originally).

And I understand people might not be willing to invest that into Jimmy G with limited exposure, but we're talking about a franchise QB that's produced at a pro-bowl level the last 2 seasons.

Throwing for nearly 5,000 yards completing 67% percent of his passes. You're not going to find many QBs with that kind of production.

Whether we should, or shouldn't depends on Cousins willingness to be here though.

If Cousins doesn't come with an assurance that he's re-signing, I'm not giving up what it'd take for the Skins to trade him. 1 year for a first round pick? Makes no sense unless your mentality is "well, the Browns can't draft anyways, what's the difference?", which is completely asinine.

He'd be a free agent next year.

It literally would be his decision to make.

We could also transition tag him in 2018. Not like we don't have the funds. That would give us two years to build around him.

You don't trade even a future 7th if he wont sign an extension, yes hyperbole. If he is willing to sign an extension i start at the 12th and one of those 2nds next year

For me, the issue would come down to the "draft pick compensation" required. The Colts have their quarterback. They just don't have much else. I think by next draft, we will have a good enough team built around a QB slot that filling that one missing piece should make us a playoff contender, and perhaps more.

I worry that trading a huge haul of picks for the right to sign Cousins might leave us short, without a real way to make up that ground.

No it wouldn't. We can transition tag him and pay somewhere in the 28 million range. The Browns would be in control.

Would you trade #33 to move up to draft Fournette? That's a more fun question.
No.33, plus what else?

If it isn't a ridiculous price, absolutely do I make that move.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there an article out there a month ago saying Kirk Cousins is not afraid to play for the Browns?

I'd trade 12 and more for Cousins. Unlike Jimmy G, he's a proven franchise caliber QB. If the Redskins are dumb enough to trade him, I'd certainly try to be one of the teams in the hunt.

You're not alone, I'm not a big fan of Cousins either.

However, as you said, he is better than what we have and what we've had before. He'd probably be the best QB we've had in so many years, honestly.

I believe he can succeed here. He's no superstar, but he can win games and make plays, so I'd be for it if the Browns acquired him and Cousins agreed to a extension. If he doesn't, then no thanks.

I think at the end of the day we settle on drafting a quarterback, and I just really hope that quarterback is DeShaun Watson.

Paging the @The Wizard of Moz, please pick up the white courtesy phone.
Holy shit how did I miss this

Does the NFL have 3 way trades?

Washington getting a shit ton of picks including #12 and others
SF gets Cousins
We get #2

Thatd be so good.
Fuck that. I'll take Cousins over the #2. If Myles wasn't in this draft I'd trade the #1 for Cousins if we could resign him

AND I'd make him the highest paid QB in NFL history.

AND I'd throw a rotten tomato at Brock

That and the 12 to get us in the top 8 range?
