2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The thing is Roberto for some reason is just a clutch dude.

Yes! Gomes is now going to play center field!

Gomes was an utility guy for the Blue Jays (LF, 1B, 3B and C) before we acquired him. He actually graded well defensively at 1st and I think he was actually better at 3rd than Chisenhall was, so he could play other positions.

Gomes splits

Pre-All Star
189 AB
.222/.315/.365 (.680)
5 HR
21 RBI

Post All-Star
146 AB
.240/.291/.425 (.716)
8 HR
33 RBI

Now Gomes cannot hit well in high pressure situations as Perez, but kills the ball when it comes to having leads and does his best work away from Progressive field in AL Central parks that arent Kaufman Stadium.

That'd be great if we had any reason for wanting him in the lineup outside of his defensive abilities behind the plate

If we do not trade him in the 19 season, he or Mejia will play other positions on the field if we decide to keep all three of them on the roster. We also do lack 1st base that season (If a Bradley or Papi/Nellie isnt ready) and who knows, maybe he will hit better when he is not catching, which at times he seems to do, but thats in very limited ABs.

If/When Mejia takes over at catcher, Gomes will not be in the lineup except for as a back up catcher (assuming he's even around).

His positional versatility is meaningless.

The question is when Mejia is ready, we will have three catchers so someone will either move positions or get traded. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Gomes is the one who gets traded or changes positions (at least part time) in that season, but that is a couple seasons from now so right now it doesn't matter to much though I wouldn't be surprised to see Gomes start to play 1st again. We can take up the argument when that season comes up.

Mejia looked like he was pressing a lot in his limited plate appearances recently, IMO (Which is understandable and maybe expected). Although I can't remember if he got a hit or something with Tito pinched him.

Mejia is the only one with a bat worth keeping in the lineup, so if they don't feel comfortable with him at another spot, or if they just feel he's more valuable as a catcher, Gomes or Perez will be gone. It's that simple. Don't overcomplicate it.

My prediction:

Mejia's bat will be ready for the MLB before his english.

Yandy will hold down 3B until Mejia is ready.

Jose to 2B full time.

Kip takes Bruce's spot in RF.

Gomes bat isn't good enough to play anywhere else.

This brief Gomes/Blue Jays talk reminds me of this old video of Gomes hitting in the minors.

Crazy how different his batting stance was.

The Indians are the best Road team in baseball, but it's always nice to be home.

Also if I remember a stat correctly Carrasco has been better on the road than at home, so I wonder if that will effect who starts game one of the playoffs

If they're going with 4 starting pitchers in the ALDS, and every indication is that they are, not sure why this would matter.

Been meaning to post this for a couple of weeks now. I'm pretty sure Tyler Olson has been tipping his pitches. It sure hasn't mattered at all. I'll go along with Jordan Bastian who refers to him as Tyler 0.00lson. But you hear stories all the time about players being able to pick up a pitcher tipping pitches fairly regularly.

I noticed this way back in the Boston series in late August, and EVERY single outing since then that I've watched on TV it's the same. Been waiting for opportunity to screenshot it while watching on my computer.

Also, I'm not sure how visible this is from the batter's box. I imagine it would be, but nobody has picked up on it. It's a fairly distinct difference for the two pitches, so I'd think it'd be visible from there. Olson also uses a full windup so this is irrelevant in those situations. But he's brought in with guys on quite regularly.

Lastly, this is mostly only the case for when Olson faces lefties (which is the vast majority of the time). That's because Olson uses a changeup to righties fairly regularly, and there's no difference in set position between his fastball and changeup as there is with the curveball.

Hope no other team is reading this

Miller has now allowed 2 base runners in 4 of his 6 appearances. 1.59 WHIP. And one of the non-occurrences was a 2 pitch-1 batter appearance.

Luckily he hasn't allowed any runs, but need him to be the dominant force he is once October hits.
