2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I read your posts, you disagree with me saying that the OF was set and I did explain why I felt that way that was logical and not just gut.

Ahh yes, Almonte's 11-game hitting streak.

But really, I think we're done here.

The season can't start soon enough!!

Maybe I should say something of panic to get the topic back. Chris Rose today said Kipnis injury was the worst news to their team compared to JD, Didi, Desmond, and forgot the last guy.

But yeah our own Chris Rose is worried of the injury!!

I am not all that worried about it. Yandy Diaz bat wise will put up good numbers and if Brantley is back healthy, we should be able to bat wise live without Kipnis

Kipnis' bat is as important to this lineup as Lindor's. I think Handy Handy could help in this regard but it really isn't fair to expect him to. And Brantley is just not likely to be consistent offensively after being off over a year. Now late in the year the lineup might be alright alright alright but early on I expect them to be very hot/cold with all the moving parts (Brantley being eased back in, the 3b, RF and CF platoons, etc).

I think Kipnis is an important person, but it be very surprising if Diaz hits below .280. I guess maybe I have a lot more faith in how the guys will hit than most.

Do we even know yet if Yandy is making the team?

Not sure that's the lock some make it seem.

How in the world do we expect Yandy Diaz to bat .280?

Like, what? Hitters of that caliber do not grow on trees.

Well honestly I feel he is a good probability of making it. If he doesn't get the spot it's because they have too many question marks about his defense. He is the best just pure hitter in the Indians farm system and he takes a lot of walks. If he plays his numbers this season will be very close to what Brantley did in 2012/2013.

He played in pros in Cuba when he was 17, the kid can hit and really well. He was a Cuban defector who didn't sign until a couple seasons ago. He won't ever hit more than 10 HRs and he hasn't completely shown he is the best fielder, so essentially a heavy contact, line drive hitter that takes pitches/walks.

Another gut feeling? There's absolutely no certainty, against pro pitching over the course of the year, that he'd hit 280, let alone it being a projection.

Super prospects don't get that expectation.

Eh, I think most people would agree he will hit really well. He is also 25 years old with pro experience in Cuba. Just projection wise I think he will hit about the same as Brantley did in 2012 (aka Brantley played a full season, hit .288 avg, .348 OBP% .750 OPS, 37 2B, 6 HR 60 RBIs 53 BB, 56 SOs) Those are good stats, but nothing that is actually that high since if the OPS is your indicator and league average is like .710, he will be just above average

Honestly he is such a pure hitter that .280 area is not unreasonable, I think even Az_ and Bimbo can agree with me on that one. I mean it's only a projection, so I could be way off. I mean I am pretty sure no one projected even Naquin to hit .296 as platoon guy.

Edit:

CBS fantasy baseball has him projected hitting .285, I know not the most reliable of places, but at least they seem up to date. So it's not like I am the only one projecting the line.

I think there's a big difference between "can do it" and "would be surprised if he didn't"

I think Yandy can do it, and I wouldn't bet against him, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he scuffled some at the plate in his first year against major league pitching.

Carrasco is starting Game 2, per Francona yesterday.

No way they'll go with a rookie.

Edit: Shit, that's the other guy.

I just do not see them going with a rookie this season. Also Jackson is a platoon guy for this roster and is going to platoon with Naquin/Chisenhall just like Guyer is. Zimmer being left handed will only replace Brantley/Chisenhall/Naquin on the roster. Even when he is up, it will be up platooning with someone so unless one of our left handed hitting OFs is batting below the .200 line coming into the All-star break/is out for the season, Zimmer is not going to be on this team. Platoon wise neither Naquin nor Chisenhall will be ineffective.

I am not saying it is impossible for Zimmer to be up, just certain things like I have mentioned will dictate if he ever comes up to the pros this season. He isn't being added to the roster unless he is getting everyday at bats against RH pitchers. Jackson has no effect on whether or not he is up. He just effects Almonte's status as a bench person. If Zimmer is up, he is starting and right now there is no spot to start at and unless the guys are doing extremely bad, he's in the minors for one more season.

My bolded words was referring to Zimmer/a rookie OF as the rookie over one of the other OFs not towards Diaz. I said they aren't going with a rookie over Naquin, Chisenhall, Brantley, Jackson, Guyer and Almonte. I said right off the bat for this season they need to find a spot for Diaz since he should have been in the pros last season in my opinion. Reread it if ya wish, but that was my intention with my words

Honestly dude, enough! I am human and I am trying the best I can. I am here to talk sports and that's it. You don't know anything about me. I don't even care if you like me, but at least I am not sitting here making fun of people for their opinions. AZ_ and Bimbo can irritate me and I irritate them, but at least they back up their reasoning with facts/logic. I have no issues with either of them and I respect what they say even if I don't agree with them. I am still learning how to converse correctly on here so give me a bit of patience will ya!

I backed up my projections with a fantasy baseball projections. Look at the kid play, there is a reason why a lot of people who know Diaz and how he hits wanted him up last season. Make your own judgement on the guy, rather than just make fun of mine
Fantasy baseball projection? For fucks sake..
