2017 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Pete Carroll said something similar about Mark Sanchez when he came out early. Granted, Kelly hasn't even sniffed the amount of success Carroll had at USC.

My extended family are die-hard ND fans (irish catholic upbringing....my grandpa taught the original four horseman at ND...yada yada) and they despise Kelly at this point. Perhaps the most overrated coach currently in CFB.

Not surprised, Brian Kelly is a 100% asshole.

For the record, I agree with him on Kizer, but you don't undermine him that way and try to tank his status in the draft. Then again, I hope people don't actually get Kelly's input either. He should be out of a job.

Can't believe he's still coaching there as it is. Goodness. If I was a Notre Dame fan I'd be so pissed.

Believe me, we are. I stopped watching the games this year, because I hate Kelly that much. I don't mind watching a bad ND team, I've done it for many years. He's so arrogant, so classless, and I can't stomach him that much.

Joe Mixon is interesting.

Not 100% sure how I feel about it.

If not for his off the field issue he would be at least a second round pick if not first round. So honestly I say we need to work him out and interview him and see how sincere the kid actually is.

He is a first round pick for sure without the punching of a girl, he still might be a 2nd round pick.

Unless he drops to the 3rd I want no part of him, but i think he might get taken in the 2nd because the skill is so high, but I want no part of him that high in my opinion.

I agree with ya there, though watching the video tells me that the girl in it wasn't innocent either, but losing control of your anger is not a good thing and I wonder if he has actually learn to control it or not.

I see it like this:

Every player with baggage has a point where the risk attached to the player is outweighed by the talent. Every single NFL player has the capability to lose their composure, every NFL player is basically a human lethal weapon. You don't want a passive, non-aggressive defensive end do you? You also don't want Aldon Smith because he will be suspended every season.

It feels like every time the Browns take a player with a red flag, it blows up in Cleveland's face... but Cleveland is in a unique position where we are already a laughing stock. There's going to be push back from a contender drafting Nixon. There will be push back from franchises that recently had a public disgrace like Aaron Hernandez... but with the Browns, everyone is looking for the drought to end. I can see Cleveland as an earlier risk point than other cities.

Hmm, I find your take to be interesting. For me, I'm not on the boat about the third being fine but a second, not.

I think you have to have investigated his past thoroughly, talked with him and family extensively, feel him worthy of a 2nd chance, and feel confident that he won't repeat his mistakes. If this is the case, and the Browns have done their homework, I wouldn't be upset if he was taken as high as pick 52. This is based on if he convinces our personnel that he wants to take positive steps to being part of the solution going forward now that he's been a part of the gruesome domestic problem this country faces in his past.

However, let's say the Browns investigate and he doesn't seem as remorseful as you'd expect or he doesn't seem prepared to fully take advantage of the 2nd chance. I don't mean that he will do it again. I mean, he must also be equipped to deal with future scrutiny/public opinions on the matter the rest of his career. He's going to carry an ugly mark on his image for his entire career. He must be able to eloquently speak to the media and convey that he is truly a changed man each and every time. He must be patient and learn to handle this. If the Browns think he's not up for the task, you remove him from your board entirely.

I guess my point is, I think you're either ok with him and trust our FO on the matter, or you don't want him at all. I don't care if it's a 2nd or a 3rd if they believe in him. Sure, I'd rather spend a 3rd, too, if they trust him. He's a bargain. However, if they truly believe in him and take him in the 2nd to make sure he's theirs, his talent certainly justifies it. On the other hand, if they don't believe in him, I wouldn't touch him at all, even in the 7th. There's no middle ground for me.

Very well-stated post and I agree. Public opinion of our team, unfortunately, can't go down any more. If you believe he's a changed man, it's not as though our front office isn't accustomed to the media beating them up. We can take the risk because we won't be forced with the task of saving face should it fail. We have no damn face to even save anyway.

Basically if Joe Mixon is doing the complete opposite of Tony Rizzo or Greg Hardy after their incidents, he might be worth a look.

Figure it'd be wise to have a post of the "official 30" visits the Browns have planned. I will update when I find new news.

1. Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M
2. John Ross, WR, Washington
3. Takk McKinley, LB, UCLA
4. Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State
5. Josh Jones, S, NC State
6. Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State
7. Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida
8. Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson
9. Mike Williams, WR, Clemson
10. Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State
11. Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma
12. Caleb Brantley, DT, Florida
13. Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan
14. Sean Harlow, G, Oregon State
15. David Njoku, TE, Miami
** Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina (Local kid doesn't count against the "official 30").

I don't think Hooker or Conley count either, right? Ohio State is now one of the designated "local" campuses for the Browns. Please let me know if I am mistaken.

I thought it was proximity to the facility that helped Mitch. I see Conley is from Massillon and Hooker is from New Castle (PA). My question is can Marshon Lattimore visit without counting against the 30.
