Ok, I watch alot of different team's feeds vs the Indians and I hear this once every series, "Ramirez was batting in the 2 teens a few years ago, what he's become from then to now is startling, you just can't explain it, he's a star"
I don't think anyone pegged this from him, but he is following a pretty blatant developmental arc.
Career .304/.355/.404 hitter in the minors, so it's not like he couldn't hit as a young player.
That, matched with the fact that he went from AA straight to the MLB as a 20 year old was a big reason people like Ed and myself were saying pump the breaks when half of this board was agreeing with the idea that "he'll never be a useful player" when he predictably struggled without seeing a single AB at the AAA level.
Then when he was recalled in 2015 you saw the beginnings of his minor league self showing up at the plate at the MLB level. .260/.337/.438 slash after his promotion, including a .280/.341/.547 in September and October.
Last year you saw more of what he was in the minors with the high average, but instead of a lot of HRs, he hit an assload of 2Bs. Sudden spike in 2Bs usually leads to better HR numbers down the line, and that's what we are seeing now.
His progression arc has been fun to watch. Producing, average wise, like he did in the minors, but is starting to hit for more power, which has turned him into a stud...power was really all that was missing from making him a stud as a prospect.
