2017 Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Almonte having a nice start to the Spring...really rooting for that guy, after reading about his experience last season/during the postseason.

I am waiting to see how Jackson is looking this spring, Jackson has a bit more actual talent than Almonte and both honestly are kind of in a make or break season for their careers. If Brantley isn't ready to go when the season starts then you know they will keep Jackson or Daniel Robertson til he is. (I don't see Ronny Rodriguez/Diaz/Zimmer getting added to the 40 man roster unless they are going to play often up here)

Gonzalez with a 3-run HR.

9-1 Indians in the 3rd.

Erik had a blast too, they have like 10 extra base hits and a few rare singles as Hammy called :chuckle:

Not sure I agree with that...

Almonte in his time with us:

.264/.308/.424, 29 2B, 6 3B, 6 HR, 54 R, 14 SB, 0 CS, 118 games, 1.8 WAR, 7 DRS, 4.2 UZR

Jackson his last 2 seasons:

.263/.313/.374, 37 2B, 5 3B, 9 HR, 80 R, 19 SB, 11 CS, 190 games, 1.5 WAR, -6 DRS, 2.6 UZR

I think Jackson HAD a bit more talent than Almonte a few years ago...not sure he does anymore though.

Experience Jackson has is another factor as well for him and we don't know in the long run what exactly caused the decline from his earlier seasons. Almonte has never shown the potential Jackson had, to me Almonte will always be a fourth OF type of person. Either way the production may be about the same, from the numbers, I'd rather have Almonte in the field and Jackson at the plate. We will see what Jackson we have this spring. Young Jackson will make the 40 man roster, while recent Jackson will end up elsewhere if Brantley is healthy

Yeah we do...his body broke down.

And his body is still broken down right now, its why he hasn't played in a game this Spring. He isn't getting younger, so his body isn't going to magically revert back to his younger days with Detroit.

And again...potential isn't what you said. Talent is what you said. I'd say the talent level right now ticks in favor a bit towards Almonte, after what he has done the past 2 seasons compared to Jackson the last 2 seasons...couple in the fact that you can rely, barring PED shit, on Almonte being healthy and always available for you, which after what we had to deal with last season, is a big deal. Can't say the same about Jackson.

Anyways...if I had my choice between the 2...I'd sign Angel Pagan...but I think, right now, Almonte is the better player than Jackson.

I'd still say Jackson has more talent, but honestly who has more talent/potential is irrelevant since they are both 4th OFs anymore. I would have to take Almonte since he is better in CF anymore than Jackson is.

I would think if the FO could have gotten Pagan on a contract like Jackson signed they would have. Pagan has to be waiting for a certain opportunity or teams just have no faith in him anymore/he is asking for too much in a deal. He could be trying to only get a major league deal and not willing to do a minor league deal. The team isn't afraid to go get the guy they wanted within reason.

If Jackson really does have more talent, he hasn't shown it recently with his production...I think his body has ruined the player he used to be, and the talent he has requires a body that is able to do the things he needs to do...but he doesn't have that anymore.

And Pagan is waiting for an injury. He wants a guaranteed deal, with a guaranteed roster spot, with guaranteed ABs, because he is still a good player. He's not signing a minor league deal after putting up a .750 OPS season last year as a switch-hitter, even with his declining defensive skills.

Cleveland it seems isn't willing to offer Pagan that otherwise I am pretty sure he would have been sign by the Indians.

The Indians from now until the season starts aren't making anymore major moves. We may see small changes to the 40 man roster. I think Cooney will start the season on the 60 day DL to try and get around using an option year. I am hoping we are able to make a deal for Milner to keep him long term, but no body else has to make the roster so we may end up with one open spot on the Roster and if Brantley is healthy then we may just keep it open until an injury happens.

I know they aren't...why I said "if I had my choice"...

If I had my choice I would have traded for Blackmon from Colorado since I don't trust Naquin everyday in CF. So we both have ideas we wish we could have done this offseason lol

I had the Blackmon idea going around here before you even joined the board haha. Same concerns.
