2017 Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In actual bad news...Cody Anderson getting Tommy John.

Curious to see how he rebounds.

Based on....???

The unnecessary freaking out over little shit on here is getting old...
Based on unexpected injuries like Kip. Who's turn is it this year to battle injuries? Nothing never goes smooth sailing, there's always hurdles.

Well we won't see him again til like late 2018, but he is still young and we don't need him, but in 2019 if he is back to rookie Anderson, then we may merit moving Carrasco or Kluber that season (one or both may get moved that season), but this hopefully in the long run will allow him to become the guy we hoped he could be

Liking what I am seeing/hearing with regards to Gomes at the plate so far this spring. That would be huge, if he has a monster rebound season...
I definitely don't care about the pitchers struggling in spring, because it does mean nothing, and the most important thing for them is just to stay healthy, and they'll be fine. But I'd say the same about Yan Gomes playing well in spring training, I don't really care about it, because nothing he has shown the last couple of years should have anyone confident in his ability to have a good season. I would much prefer they just go forward with Roberto Perez full time, given he is the superior option defensively.

I actually think both Kipnis and Brantley will be healthy done the stretch and have the backup guys getting more experience/at bats I think could benefit us actually.

Keep overreacting dude...it suits you.

Until something serious happens to one of our main guys, I'm not going to worry about little aches and pains that the team doesn't want guys to play through in the Spring in games that literally don't matter...

Its never puppies and kittens with the Indians, it's either a hitter, or a starting pitcher. I hate seeing Kip out for 6-7 weeks total. His spring training will be April/May.

I don't care about pitchers numbers because they aren't going out there doing what they would do in a normal game. Kluber isn't going to throw a bunch of 0-2 changeups like he did a few days ago. Carrasco isn't going to just throw fastballs. Tomlin isn't going to throw a bunch of curveballs. Shaw isn't going to throw changeups and curves when he's in a regular season game. Etc., etc.

The overreacting to pitching numbers/results is hilarious to me...and the fact that douches are laughing at me for saying that I'm not worrying about that is dumb as fuck to me.

But the Gomes stuff, while I agree won't translate much to regular season performance, is a good sign because his ceiling as an overall player is much higher than Perez's. Both of them are pretty equal talents defensively, but Gomes has 20+ HR, ~.800 OPS potential, because we have seen it before from him. If we get anything that trends back towards that, that's a huge win for us...so I'm taking any positive sign I can get in that regard.

But I think you see a 2:1 games played ratio between Gomes and Perez, barring injuries to one of them. Think that breakdown makes sense. Hopefully keeps both fresh throughout the year, leading to not having the leagues worst offensive output from the C spot this upcoming season.

I'd rather have Kip fully healthy and struggling in April/May, than have him laboring in September/October...

And all of the injuries, people have overreacted to. Cookie will be fine, Brantley is doing fine, Naquin is fine, Kip will be fine...relax.

Only serious one to this point is Cody Anderson, and he's a depth piece. But don't let me and my "bimbocolesconfidence" stand in your way...

And why are we ignoring the very, very good news that came out of that same tweet?

Michael Brantley is starting in the OF in an MLB Spring Training game tomorrow. That means, if all goes well the next couple of weeks, he is probably out there on Opening Day for us. How many were expecting that to potentially happen?

As soon as he gets 150 ABs I can rest......

His big hurdle last year was having no pain after dealing with the workload of swinging at live pitches. Making awkward swings to fight a pitch off, adjusting to off speed pitches mid-swing, etc...those little movements are what it sounds like were the things he couldn't get past last season which kept causing him pain.

The fact that he's made it through I believe 5 live pitching workouts without suffering a setback or a slow down of his timetable is a great sign to me. Next question is how he reacts to back-to-back days of live game workload. That's his next big hurdle.

I think if he clears that, he is good to go...

Looks like Jose at 2nd and Gio at 3rd to start the season.

Pitchers will love that defense.

Jose is the best defensive 2B in our system, and you know how good Gio's glove can be.

Still weighing 3B options, Gio isn't set in stone. Diaz and Shaffer are playing their way into the conversation as well, and Tito has been talking about Gonzalez at 3B as well. So still 4 guys to choose from over the next few weeks.

Just as long as Michael fucking Martinez doesn't start Opening Day, I'm good with anything.

Sad part is when we agree on something, everyone should get it is not wrong. People are way, way too worried right now. We have a very good roster and we made it all the way without Brantley, so if he comes back even the Brantley of like 2012, then he will improve our offense.

I am not worried about Brantley and Kipnis since those two guys are veterans that know what they are doing. They will start the season on the DL, but I want them for the playoffs, let Jackson/Gonzalez/whoever starts for them get at bats. Having guys like them on the bench with at bats will be a good thing in the long run I feel.

We have the best catching tandem in baseball so I have faith in Gomes and Perez. I mean Gomes is a slightly better hitter while Perez is slightly better defensively. Gomes when healthy is above average defensively just not as good framing pitches. I see Gomes getting 3 games to Perez getting 2, so Gomes I know will catch Kluber, but it's like Gomes is gonna get around 90 and Perez like 70.

Shaffer has been looking good this spring and he still has minor league options, so I don't mind him making it. Now he does have a lot of strikeouts, that is what could stop him from making the team. I would love Diaz on the roster playing everyday.

Sadly at the moment I don't see how they don't choose Martinez to start the season on the roster. I feel no matter what Gonzalez is starting on the roster. I actually want to see Gonzalez starting at 2B with Martinez on the bench (since I just feel we are stuck with him sadly) Jackson or Robertson i feel will start the season on the Roster in LF. Jackson I like better, but we will see.
