We've bitched for years about this team being unwilling to just tear it down and suck for a few years and rack up those high picks, constantly seeking short-term solutions and winning just enough games to miss out on the top picks. You'd think some of you would be more excited that we're actually doing it. :chuckle:

@The Wizard of Moz I have an outrageous plan that you may or may not like, but it is quite possible it could happen in theory that would actually go for straight talent in 2018 rather than just do the normal just adding picks.

At the moment Cleveland is picking 1 which is likely a QB spot, so we are making a trade with the Giants lets say and move down to number 4, thus netting us an additional 2nd round pick and something next season/another third this season. Yes it would cost them a fair amount to do it. I am betting a 2nd in 18 and a 2nd in 19. I am expecting the Texans pick to be somewhere around 15.

That means we go into day 1 of the draft with picks 4, 15, 35, 37, 47, 58, 65

Now onto more trades: We use pick 35 and 65 to net us back into the first round in the early 20s, so lets say 21 for the heck of it. Then we move 37 and next years 1st (plus maybe a 4th or something like that) for a pick that is like 16, so lets go with that.

Now we have 4, 15, 16, 21, 47 and 58 (Yes that is actually possible)

Next order of business, we sign CB Trumaine Johnson from the Rams, WR DeAndre Hopkins from the Texans, TE Tyler Eifert from the Bengals, RB Devonta Freeman from the Falcons. Maybe pick up a S Kam Chancellor/S Malcolm Jenkins/S LaMarcus Joyner while we are at it.

Then in the draft: 4: S Derwin James 15: S/CB Fitzpatrick 16: WR St. Brown 21: DE Sam Hubbard 47: RB Bo Scarborough 58: LB Malik Jefferson

Aka I am not sure of which players we would pick, but we have the assets and cap space next season to do all those moves. I am mostly going by b00bies list for the most part/chat in the 18 draft prospects.

Now how would you feel about the Browns with that type of roster?

I'd like to hope we could trade #1 for more than an extra 2nd and a 3rd in a scenario where a team really wants a QB.

I'll be honest coach and this is going to be a wildly unpopular opinion

If we get the first pick and Kizer more or less looks the same week 17 as he does now, I'm taking Darnold

We could still get a QB, my point was just showing what we could do next season with all the cap space and flexibility that we have. We can get that top tier talent that you have been complaining we havent drafted yet.

We will still have a 1st in 2019 since we acquire one in a trade moving down and could trade one to move back up as well from the second round so we end up with still our normal amount of picks next season without actually truly giving up anything important long term.

I still think its unrealistic. However, it's way more unrealistic that we sign all of:
1. Freeman
2. Hopkins
3. Eifert
4. Trumaine Johnson
5. Kam Chancelor

Let alone a single one of them. I like your optimism, though.

#1 to Giants for OBJ and 1st? Giants might still need to throw in another pick based on OBJ's contract demands.

I actually agree. I love the idea of not having to use the pick on a qb, but if Kizer doesnt start making better decisions, then I use the pick on Donald and go for broke.

a late 2nd and a 3rd on a qb is not wasting a ton of draft assets on the QB position, but you need to keep trying until you 100% know you got it right.

There are apparently strong beliefs that Darnold is staying in school. We're all aware of this right?

Yes, and if he doesnt come out, I dont see a qb I take at 1 and pick BPA or trade back a few spots for someone to over pay for a QB>

As a believer in Kizer, I prefer this situation to play out.
