2017 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hellickson- Philly
Happ, Estrada- Toronto
Cashner- Texas

Decent starters that would probably not cost much

Estrada is my #1, by far. Free agent to be, so he won't cost much to get, still Ks a ton of guys, and is due for some better luck in the 2nd half. Think we can get him for just 1 guy from the ~8-15 range in our farm. Someone like Hillman or Castro gets it done for us I think.

Woah...

From a White Sox perspective I'm ecstatic, 20 year old 6'4 highly touted OFs don't grow on trees. Quintana is 50-54 with a 3.5 Era, 4-8 this year with a 4.5 ERA and 1.3 Whip, CWS did a very good job here. Just a few days ago Cubs reporters were raving about these few prospects and how they'll be promoted.

Eloy will be ready in the distant future says CWS GM.

Both of the top guys they just got are at least a year and a half away. Cease probably 2+, since they will monitor him close with his health issues in the past.

Still, they'll roll out Moncada, Kopech, Giolito, and Lopez probably end of this year or beginning of next season, then trickle these guys in.

Sucks to see a franchise in our division doing good things, but it also opens our window to win the division an extra year...even more so if Detroit sells and KC loses their free agents this winter.

I keep seeing Tribe fanboys on Twitter tweeting about how they'd give up big prospects for aces.

Zero chance from me. We're very much win now while still having a very solid farm system.

Also, Mejia joins Frankie and Jose as untouchables for me from a non-pitcher standpoint.

I think it depends on who is considered an ace.

With Quintana and Gray, I agree with you. Both are very good and under team control, but i don't like them enough to offer multiple top prospects. Guys like Chris Archer and de Grom on the other hand, would get me very excited, not that I think either team is especially interested in trading either right now.

Long-term, best case scenario is KC keeps pace with us in July and doesn't sell off their plethora of valuable free agents.

I don't think they sell, at least not all of them...but they should.

They'd get a haul for Hosmer, especially if they ship him to a certain team in NY currently running Ji-Man Choi out at 1B...

They'd get a haul for Moose too, especially if they ship him to a certain team in New England currently running Deven Marrero out at 3B...

Cain would have numerous suitors who up the price on him naturally.

Vargas can fetch something useful while having a career year.

They're in a tough spot, cause they're probably thinking they have a chance, but they also know they have no chance in hell to retain all 4 of those guys. They'd be lucky to retain just 1 this winter IMO.

Curious what they do.

You don't give up Mejia for a backend starter who may not even be in the playoff rotation.

No one here - but there's been mention that that would be the expectation in any package for Sonny Gray-type talent.

Sonny Gray until the injury last season was a Cy Young candidate and has years of control. Oakland needs a catcher and will want a top prospect of a catcher in the deal back for Gray so it's very unlikely we get Gray without giving up Mejia.

Sonny Gray isn't a "backend starter" though. Currently putting up #2 numbers, has put up ace numbers multiple times in the past, and is cheap and controlled for 3 more seasons. Of course it will cost a lot to get him.

Wait....Indians are in on Gray?

I don't doubt it, but like any trade, what is the price tag for Gray? With the fact Cleveland and Oakland have done trades with each other fairly often and Gray has team control, he would be on the Indians short list of targets. Now that being said he will merit a similar price to Quintana so I am not sure if the Indians want to give that much up and also Oakland doesn't go by the same scouting rating it seems as the rest of baseball so I cannot tell ya who they like outside of Mejia.
